I broke a rope

Last night I got belly up. This rope snapped off during the first recovery attempt. I need to cut it off with a knife.

A few thing wrong here Neil

- rope wasn’t strong enough
- you needed a double knot just in case
- next time use more momentum, then you wouldn’t be belly up

I wasn’t even driving. It was one of the spawn.

There was actually too much momentum. Enough to nearly crash through a fence.

But next time I’ll try a double knot. Just to be safe.

I wouldnt recover with that knot
or that ‘tow’-point
or that rope ...
( unless I dont know them ...)

is that an adequate tow-point ...
... looks like tie-down loop for shipping.

whats the rope rated to pull ?

A 'tow' point is fine to tow a vehicle out, just don't snatch from it. I guess we all have a rope of some kind in our vehicles, those ex mountain climbers ropes are quite fancy. Some ropes break some don't. ;)

That rope wasn’t mine. Plus, it had about 20 knots in it. Thus 20 weak spots. But it’s all that was available at the time. So we used it. But it didn’t work.

The point is just a tow point. But it was engineered by Renault, so it must be good.

So, where was your tow rope? If you don't mind one asking?
In for a service?

It was at home. I didn’t think I’d need it [emoji1787].

Eventually I had to arrange for it to be fetched.

Reenen it did break at the knot. My old snatch strap had a knot in it which broke at the knot during a heavy snatch

Maak sien. Knope maak n konsentreer punt, so logies dat hy daar breek.

Maar net n vraag: hoekom het n ou tou/strap 4-5 lasplekke, en nie net een nie....

Due to having to use the tow point, I made a sand bag out of a patio chair bag, using duct tape.
