Is this the first results of the Ford/VW partnership to build a new bakkie? :o :o :o
If this is the case, then I am slowly but surely running out of Vehicle Brands I allow onto my property

It does look like it is going to be a smaller bakkie or same size as Amarok? Will it also get the famed 8 gear auto with low first gear and useless reverse gear? If it is going to be a smaller bakkie, they might be on to something here....

It will be a lot smaller than the Amarok, for interest sake, VW is also working on an even bigger than Amarok concept called the Tanoak which will compete with the likes of the f150 and Tundra but will not share the ladder frame chassis! Sadly it does not seem like we will get this option in SA

The meaning of Tanoak, pronounced Tan u hak, stems from American fokelore as it is intended for this region and has nothing to do with Nothilocarpus densiflorus, although I suppose this is also abundant in this region

Of significance to this discussion would then make the semantics of stating the little one the second attempt, it is in fact the third current attempt!

Damn, I need to get back to work!

 At least TAROK has a meaning, whereas "OROCH" is completely meaningless, as is the vehicle the name is linked too :P

Slowly but surely VW are losing the plot. It doesn’t appear that there’s much thought that goes into what they design, copy or market. I think all those emission gases that they breathed in have affected their logic.

It’s obvious that they are copying Dacia simply because the Oroch is the only unibody small leisure pick up in production. There’s no competition so far, but they’ve sold about 30k units p.a already, just in South America which is why VW probably want to copy it.

It won’t be the first time they’ve apparently copied a Dacia.

But the Dacia/Nissan NP200 sells gazillions, especially in South America & SA. On that basis, why don’t they stop cocking around & launch their version here?

They don’t appear to have any direction.

VW can be brilliant innovators when they develop something from scratch, like the MK1 Golf or Polo, but they tend to stuff things up when they copy because they don’t seem to understand the philosophy of the product or market that they are entering, that other manufacturers already occupy.

This is the same company that thought that removing low range & a practical reverse gear from their Amarok bakkie were grand ideas. But luckily their customers don’t seem too fussy or inquisitive, like why it’s the only vehicle on the market without an engine cover. No Amarok owner will ask the question.

The UP! is another example. They realized that they were missing a city car, so decided to design one. Not appreciating the philosophy behind what constitutes a city car, the end result was a watered down 4 door Polo with no legroom & windows that don’t open.

Junky, what are you smoking? Because I also want some🤦‍♂️

30 k units you say? That is VW production for 2 days 6 hours and 42 minutes, give or take a few units! Go google it if you don’t believe me!

You have obviously never set foot in an Up let alone drive one, even with my lanky frame I have managed decent milage in them and never have I seen a fresher approach to a town car, let alone comfort and clever design, it also has almost nothing in common with the polo other than the badge on the snout!

I’m yet to meet an unhappy Up customer, no matter how disinterested or unconcerned they may be!

You will be interested to know, that the interior of all Volksies and Audis and Porsches and Lamborginis and Seats and Skodas and even MAN trucks and Bugati and Bentley and even Ducatti, if there is such a thing as a Ducatti interior, has their inspiration in the dry dessert landscape from the Northern Cape!

Correct sir, they are all designed by a homy! A plaasgirl from Prieska nogal! Not an obnoxious Frenchman high on tik!

And as for copying, the first hybrid diesel electric all wheel drive suv was built in 1904, if any other brand developed an SUV before that, my humblest appologiesImage

Last comment, I still need to work, as for direction, VW has only one vision, to be the biggest automotive manufacturer in the world, the only manufacturers standing in their way is Toyota and Chevrolet, I do recall Renault claimed this position in the media a few months back, but all they did was to become the laughing stock of the world!

XJ, pm me your address, I’ll send you my Amaroks engine cover, I have no need for it!Image

Why model of VW? I know it’s not the Amarok.

As stated, the Oroch only sells in South America. That’s where they’ve sold 30k units in a year (wasn’t a full year either).

Yes Amarok is definitely not their priority, only 90 000 units a yearImage

@Quack

I’ve been in a UP. It was the 2 door version which is the only one that made some sense. It was a little under spec’d.
It doesn’t do anything that the Italians & French weren’t already doing. It’s a copy right down to the exterior dimensions. But then they tried to turn the interior into what a Polo does, except for the rear space & windows that open. It’s now a mess.

But you’re right in saying that UP owners are always happy. It’s probably thanks to their meds.

As far as VAG testing all their vehicles in the Northern Cape goes, the only thing they don’t do durability tests on is the paint that rubs off all the switches over time.

The largest vehicle manufacturer in the world is the Renault/Nissan Axis.
VW is 3rd.
