Erm.... No. Go and speak to your dealer. Friend got a qoute for R 482 000 for the 2.4 auto 4x4.
You are now using Reenen logic.
A 2.4 Fortuner at a dealership that doesn't offer a discount is more expensive than a 2.4 Fortuner at a dealership running a special.
To compare you need to compare either: List price to list price, or best discounted price to best discounted price.
So you can't compare a best special discounted 2.4 Fortuner to an MU-X list price.
Must I explain comparing apples to apples to you?
Uncle Manny, please..... Stop incorporating fruits and vegetables into everything. It is giving irreversible support for the stereotypical cliche's of the Portuguese people...
I cannot find any discounted 4x4 Mux's. The best one seem to be a demo with 2.5K on for around R 570 000.
They seem to be heavily overpriced considering alternatives available....
Exckackely! Is there 120K more value in a Mux than a 2.4 Auto 4x4 Tuna? If one where to go for a bakkie based SUV 4x4, the smart money is on a slightly used 2.2 Everest 4x4.... Saw a 2017 model with 35k on the clock for just R 380 000....
Is a newer Everest with only 200cc more worth over 3x that price...
NEW, you remind me of a guy I met in the street many years ago.
It was late at night and he was standing in the glow of a streetlight looking at the ground intensely.
I asked him what was up & he said he lost his car keys.
I asked him to tell me in which area he thinks he'd lost them & I'll help him look.
He pointed to a dark, badly lit patch a bit further up & said "I dropped them there somewhere!"
So I asked him why he was looking here, by the light if he dropped them over there.
He said "Because the light is better here!"...

Look, we lost the plot with the incorporation of 2nd hands. The point is the MUX is overpriced.
They launched an MU (Multi Utility) basically the old Fronteir.
In Europe I saw a SWB Frontier badged as Opel MU.
Later it became a 7 seater called the MU-7.
Now it's a MU-X.
Fortuner isn't a word & I dunno if they mean it costs a Fortune or you need a Fortune Teller.
Everest is stupid - it's a mountain the Everest can't get to.
Pajero is wanker & Pajero Sport should be called a Pajero Lite.
Toyota didn't call the Fortuner a Prado Sport.
TrailBlazer, Pathfinder etc, sound like Broke Back trackers... like the Trail Blazer could blaze a trail...
Scorpio is a star sign, thank God they changed it to S10...
Don't get me started on Jeep - Grand Cherokee? Why not Grand Comanche, or Grand Xhosa...
The people who buy them would prefer Grand Cyclops, I'm sure...
As for Discovery - the only thing you discover in a Discovery is that your crank snapped & your Turbo popped.
The only decent SUV names are Range Rover, Land Cruiser &... maybe... Patrol...
MUX is the loving name you call your mother after she you brought you and your chums some Oros, while you were playin in the backyard back in primary school days.
As in "Dankie Moeks!"
I'd rather have my vehicle named after some far off unreachable mountain or a vrot tuna than someone's cute name for their mom.
Ok, so after me having to contact the salesman he emailed through the quotation...
Final price: R608 442
Which is made up of the following, of which I requested a tow bar and diff lock:
Delivery: R4800
Tow bar: R6000
Alpine Radio: R12 200
Tinting: R2800
All prices ex VAT
His exact words, when I queried the lack of pricing/quotation for the diff lock he said is an option and I said I wanted: There is no need for a diff lock as it has a limited slip diff. the Alpine radio @ R12 200 was fitted to the test unit but nothing was said at test drive stage, only now at quotation stage, which annoys me as I was comparing the head unit as a factory item to the others, I now have no clue what I get if I do not take the option... based on his either lack of knowledge, or lack of caring, or both, I would scratch this car from my short list.

I feel demo vehicles should be stock standard, for exactly the reason mentioned above! That said, I do not think you can dismiss a vehicle based on the lack of knowledge of one salesperson.
Your threads and tests are very informative, but it is quite clear that your mind was made up before you started testing alternatives. Which is fine with me, but you seem to base your dismissals on trivial issues. Just come out of the closet and admit that you are a GNU to the core
I refuse to be POLITICALLY CORRECT to impress others - Deal with it
FLEX is UNDERRATED
Jeez Geoff, you’re being unreasonable. Why don’t you just drive back to the dealer (or another dealer) and ask to see the standard spec MU-X for comparison.
Then make up your mind to get the Fortuner instead
