Back-a-Buddy/Contribute-to-a-Court Case...

#1

Post by Mad Manny »

Hi guys! I would appreciate some help!

Introduction: I have an upcoming 4x4-related court date & would like to appeal to the 4x4 fraternity for support to cover the costs of the court date.

Background: (Very Briefly) Many of you know the story, about 4 years ago a guy (I did not know who he was) was selling some bash plates on a certain FB page. He stated that they were brand new 6mm Aluminium.
I was fully aware that the bash plates in question were worth four times more than he was asking.
Someone asked if the price was good, I replied that the price was ‘Suspiciously Cheap’.
My comment was based on the fact that he could easily ask 2 or 3 times more & it would still be a great price.
The real seller (not the guy who actually posted the advert) who is involved, to an extent, in the 4x4 industry, then decided that my comments were derogatory & sued me.
This case was eventually dropped as I had not made the comments to the real seller.

However, later the seller then launched exactly the same lawsuit & this has dragged on for years.

Disclaimer: Unfortunately, at this stage, I cannot provide more details.

Current Status: We. finally, go to court next month. There have been costs related to this matter over the past few years which I have managed to cover. But I’d appreciate assistance with the costs of the court day.

How will it work?:Basically, if anyone wishes to contribute any amount, they can deposit into the club account.
Please use the reference ‘Legal Fees’.
Any excess amount not used towards the case, will then be left in the club account for the benefit of the club.

Final Point: Please understand that I can’t say much more at this stage & please be wary of how you reply. Also, please don’t post speculations about who my accuser/s are.

Account Number 1051513812

I thank you all.

Also thanks to all those who contacted me.
I too don't understand the logic behind the case, as it hasn't done their business any good.
I'm also not the 1st person to be a victim of thier libelous threats...

But you have to admit, that is the most innocuous comment ever.
Especially in the context of internet scams. Sometimes not even on Facebook, even on the forums we get chancers with dubious prices for 4x4 accessories. You can spot them for having made only one or two posts before, now selling his dead BIL's 4x4 stuff. Facebook is all the more likely place for that to happen generally. The comment merely encourages to be careful. Not to shame the innocent. I know this is 'prejudicial' and all that, but this is the kind of case that I think is likely to be dismissed with cost.

Jakes & Alex, you both make a good point & since it's not my case is about, I'll respond:
Inadvertently (perhaps) what the case would do, if it succeeds, would be tantamount to censorship.

Now, the world did go all Battshit Bonkers & the UK will arrest you for posting your views online.
But other than in the UK, the world has started to move away from this "Woke/I'm Offended/You Opinion Scares me/I identify" as madness.

I was asked for opinion & gave it.

Manny,

Can you given an indication of how much this entails?
