The Chinese Defender might give the INEOS Grenadier a run for their money.

BAW Have build some interesting vehicles over the years...

BJ212 and judging by the 212 is the "predecessor" of the new one. Note that I placed predecessor in inverted commas as both Jeep and Land Rover have shown this doesn't mean sh!t in the modern versions.

I like the looks.
If you are wondering what the difference is between the Haval H7 and the GWM Tank 300, think of it this way:
The Tank 300 is based on the P series pick up in much the same way the Fortuner is based on the Hilux.
All 4 of those are Body on Frame i.o.w they roll on a classic chassis.
The H7 is unibody, no chassis, meaning it's more of a Soft Roader like RAV4 or X-Trail.

Pics below...

Tank300

But I do like the looks of the H7, Camaro front meets Mazda CX-60
From what is see it has a rear electronic diff - so maybe a bit more capable than the soft roaders

The Chinese are doing quite good in the mining industries with their Yellow Machines. You can add to the list equipment like mobile cranes and Cherry Pickers.

However I think I am not ready to own a Chinese Car.
You will never find me without Stroh or a 4x4 :D

Jetour (part of Chery) launched in SA in October last year.

In December Jetour sold more vehicles than Mercedes Benz & more than Jaguar Land Rover....

They cleverly made it look like a Wrangler from the front, has a Hummer look from the side.
It has a nice look, as does the X7 and even the P500 Bakkie.

I see the new CEO of Jeep is going back to basics and will only offer "fun vehicles" in the original true spirit of the brand.

Hopefully we get to see some of the concept stuff that gets created for Jeep Easter Expo in real life:

The Italian rebadged stuff can just go away and die for all I care.

They have it. Called the Wrangler Sport. Jeep ZA refuses to bring it in with the base spec.

USD$ 33,900
Comes with the 3.6 V6 and a 6-speed manual box.

Rubicon starts at USD$ 52k and the Sahara at USD$ 50k

So taking that back to ZA prices, the sport would be in the ballpark of R790,000

GWM launched the Poer Bakkie in SA - called it the P-Series here.
Lissie & Psyphin bought them.
Then GWM launched the P500 - basically the Poer's big brother.
Has a 2.4TDi rather than the little 2.0.
Now GWM has launched a replacement for the P-Seried Poer.
Called the P300.
(Thanks for the Heads Up Jakes)
The P300 Leisure models will have the same 2.4TDi as the P500.
The P300 Commercial range retains the old 2.0TDi.

P300 2.4TDi 4x4 9speed auto R650 000

The 2.4 has 135kW, 15kW more than the 2.0.
Torque is rated at 480Nm
Tows 3500kg
7 year 200000km warranty.

How's this for weird model names:
Back in the day you had models with names like:
Corolla 1.6 GL
or
Cortina 3.0 GLS
or
320i
or
E230

Mahindra has launched a lekker little SUV.
It replaces the XUV300 & is well priced.
The only SUV under R300k with a turbo.
82kW @ 5000rpm & 200Nm from 1500rpm til 3500rpm
Compare that to the higher revving Corolla Cross with...
103kW @ 6400rpm & 172Nm @ 4000rpm

But the names!
Here is the range:
XUV 3X0 1.2T MX2 MT
XUV 3X0 1.2T MX2 AT
XUV 3X0 1.2T MX3 MT
XUV 3X0 1.2T MX3 AT
XUV 3X0 1.2T AX5 MT
XUV 3X0 1.2T AX5 AT
& the top model, the
XUV 3X0 1.2T AX7L AT

Imagine being at a braai & I guys says "nice car, what is it?"
& you have to reply "It's my new Mahindra XUV 3X0 1.2T AX7L AT"
:D  :)

Easy enough to just say "it's a red one" or whatever the color is. Most of the population are totally clueless to the name of what they drive now anyway. They have no interest in how many cylinders it has or whether it has some form of forced induction. As long as it's filled with irritating electronic gadgets that mask the true driving experience, they are happy.

We get very few chinese cars here, Lynk & Co, Zeekr and BYD are the only ones I know of. Maybe MG also counts as a chinese brand now. Haven't seen any Indian cars. The dutch like hybrids and electric vehicles so Tesla does well here.

Diesel vehicles are HEAVILY taxed. The new Toyota Land Cruiser cost price is ~€80000 while the environmental tax is about ~€75000. Cant and dont want to buy for that price. Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe comes in 2l and is PHEV with a 250kW+ output but because it has some electric type drive and is petrol, the environmental tax is extremely low but still costs ~€81000 and with tax of ~€3500.

I'm trying to figure out which vehicle will work for me as a touring vehicle but I know it can't be a plain diesel anymore due to taxes. Its interesting either way.
Cheese, canals and mud. Flattest country in the world. Wish they had 4x4'ing here
