Let's see:
The bus is 14 years old with 240k kms on the clock, the previous one I sold at 14 years old and 230k kms.
The 130 was on 230k kms when I sold it and around 17 years old. The 110 had 220k kms on the clock when I sold it, and 16 years old.
The CJ6 was around probably at least 20 to 25 years old when I bought it, mileage unknown.
Price wise, buy high and sell low has worked for me so far...
This will be the 'youngest' and lowest mileage 4x4 that I buy if I do.

The engine on those are excellent. The Pentastar V6 was designed by Maserati. IMHO it is miles better than the Toyota 4.0 1GR-FE.
We have 350,000kms on our engine, the only issues we've had are the plastic engine components failing: sadly Stellantis decided to cut costs on vital items such as the oil filter housing, the thermostat housing and the radiator. Plastic doesn't like high temps and becomes brittle as the essential oils evaporate out of the plastic. However, I think some of these were upgraded in 2014.
The other issue is that the complex electricals start giving issues if you drive a lot of dirt roads: the copper becomes work-hardened and the wires snap at a stress point: symptoms are spurious OBD errors related to signal loss and voltage drop.
Apart from the complete lack of decent indie mechanics, you won't have too many issues as long as the vehicle has been well maintained.
Our Wrangler gives 11-12L/100 in mixed driving and I've had ours under 10L on a slow trip to Moz. Short trips and the loud pedal abuse MIGHT see the consumption climb to around 14L/100, but if you're in 15L territory, there is an issue.

I'm waiting to see whether my local Supergroup dealer (Suzuki Edenvale), can get the Jeep here for me to take a look at.

I was working how much mileage I do, and it's not excessive, so can live with the consumption.
I can always steal Trish's car as a run-about on weekends.
The bus is doing 11 to 12 l/100kms in town so there's not too much difference. Open road the bus is pretty good though, but just doesn't give me that fire-breathing monster feeling that the GC does.

I had to be open about the issues. Yes, it isn't a Toyota. But it has had quite a hard life doing a bad dirt road every day.
Ian can confirm that our road isn't the best.
@Erin: understand that Jeep is in trouble worldwide and I'd be concerned about local spares support at some stage.
So American SUV, Goldwagen and Online Car Parts will probably be the only option in a few years.

New vehicle loading.... Not Carlos anymore.
Finance approved, OTP signed, service done, new front control arms and rear air air bags installed. Innovations 2 year warranty in place.
2014 GC 3.6 V6 Overland - one owner, with a smidgen under 170k kms on the clock, and a full service history, mostly at Jeep. By far the cleanest and best kept one I looked at, despite the higher mileage, and at the lowest price of all the ones I looked at (I was prepared to go up to R70k to R100k more for the right vehicle, but it's difficult to justify that sort of additional cost on an example with only 30 to 40k kms less on the clock, maybe one year newer, and in much rougher condition. I tried a CRD, but preferred the petrol.
It doesn't have the adaptive cruise control or rear difflock, but I very seldom use cruise control in any case, and it's unlikely to do any really rough stuff.
To do list:
It doesn't have a towbar, although the build spec includes Trailer Sway Damping and Trailer Tow Prep Group, but I assume these are standard. I don't need a towbar, but maybe in the future (and there don't seem to be any rear recovery points.
It will need new tyres relatively soon. Currently shod with BFG Trail Terrains with a little tread left on them. Will see if I can find a set of 18" rims.
There's a small split on the seam on the edge of the driver's seat.
Would like to find some seat covers and floor mats, but not much available online from the usual suspects.
Find a reputable RMI approved place to service it, the closer to the East Rand the better.
Dealer comments:
WBC - Silverlakes: Total balls up - it took them the better part of an hour to find the vehicle I wanted to drive, and let's just say the photos were very flattering (actual condition wasn't good, despite it being a gold or platinum category vehicle.
Citton Cars Gezina: The one I looked at and test drove, obviously belonged to "horsey" person, and was filthy and smelled like a stable. This despite them having a week's notice that I was coming to see it, and them telling me it had been in their workshop for at least a week, if not more. It didn't look like anybody had touched it in weeks, and the boot and back seats were still full of hay. Lots of cosmetic damage in the interior, and bits of trim damaged or lying in the boot. We also waited for an hour for the test drive. The slap chips were good though, it may be a marketing strategy. They would have most likely had the sale on the spot if they had bothered to give it, and Trish and me, a little TLC.
Grandeur Auto: Apparently their photographer is a genius, because the one I went to look at there, was nothing like the photos. It (the car, not the dealer, just felt dodgy. Trish's intuition is usually pretty good, and she hated it, and the place (odd way to choose a car, but here we are).
Grand Central Motors Midrand: Still waiting for their call to let me have the ETA on the part they have on back order, so that I arrange a test drive, despite me following up a number of times (it has been 2 weeks)
No photos yet, hoping to collect it on Monday or Tuesday.
