Toyota IS launching a new small Cruiser.
Motoring Jouros & You Tubers are referring to it as the Mini Cruiser for now.
It may well carry the FJ nameplate.
It will run on a ladder frames chassis, so it will NOT be based on the Cporolla Cross or RAV4 Unibody floor pan.
They say it will have ICE engines (good!) & will have a wheelbase of 2700mm.
The LC 300 has a wheelbase of 2850mm, so it won't be based on the TNGA-F underpinnings.
BTW, the Fortuner has a 2750mm wheelbase.
My guess is it will based on a shortened version of the Toyota Hilux IMV (Champ) underpinnings.
They even say it'll have the 2700cc Hilux engine, but I'm sure it'll also get the 2,4GD motor.
The media here in Aus recon that it might even come with the 2.5 Petrol Hybrid engine to our market which is good for around 160kw... Not a bad looking option, just hoping that Toyota think straight when the finalize the engine line up. I recon the 2.8 Diesel Hybrid like they will do for new Fortuner/Hilux should work great
The 2.8GD Hybrid would be nice, but it's apparently the size of a Corolla Cross and I suspect they'll want it to slot in below the next RAV, so, in SA, Sub R600k. That may force the use of cheaper engines....
Then I reckon the 2.5L Hybrid will be an option... Would also not surprise me if they use the 2.4L Turbo Petrol that they have... But I reckon the 2.4D will be great as it should also be quite light
But it is a good looking vehicle and should do well if they can keep the price at the above range
My guess is it will based on a shortened version of the Toyota Hilux IMV (Champ) underpinnings.
They even say it'll have the 2700cc Hilux engine, but I'm sure it'll also get the 2,4GD motor./quote]
Yes seems to be an update version of the 2.7 2TR-FE engine. With a proper engine and good 4x4 system it could give the Jimny a run for its money.
