Talking on phone whilst driving. Why is it illegal?

- You can try and work you Infotainment System in your car whilst driving
- You can try and light a cigarette whilst driving. And don't even get me started on the Twats that smoke those Vape K@K.
- You can eat a Streetwise 2 whilst driving

In my eyes all of the above is more dangerous than holding your phone next to your ear whilst driving.

it'sbe ause you are both holding a device and concentrating on the call.

With a Bluetooth call you are only concentrating on a call.
With lighting a smoke you one hand is busy, but the distraction is minimal and short.

I've seen how people texting or talking on a hand held drive and I believe vehicles should be fitted with a blocking device rendering the unable to operate while in motion unless its via a bluetooth device...

Driving from Chartwell SA to Chartwell UK AlleyG lost a tyre when she hit a pothole whilst distracted by her phone.

BTW Jotto, they do not make money off you as it is not enforced... but it should be, severely....

My rant on this is why do people buy a R1m vehicle with BT handsfree integrated and refuse to use it?
I can understand that the average plonker won't have that luxury, so it's either a BT headpiece or old school for us poor sods, but what about all the wealthy cnuts out there?

Jakes, just because a vehicle costs someone (the government or a company probably) a lot of money has no correlation to it being operated like it's meant to be.
Just look at the use of indicators as a jardstick.

Crap argument Paul. Maybe we should all buy aircraft and not operate them like they were meant to be? Or firearms? Garden poisons?

I'm not condoning what the norm is, Jakes. I feel very strongly about the lack of conformation to the laws pertaining to the use of cell phones while driving.

Because only dooses hold the phone to their ear while driving. Seriously.

It is also physically impossible for these aforementioned dooses to look in the mirrors whilst they have their hand next to their ears.., and especially not when they are holding the phone diagonally Infront of their mouths.

I just love blowing my cars hooter at the point the driver on the cell is at the closest to the front of my car. It has a greater effect if his window is open.

I've never understood these people... How are you supposed to hold your beer if you are trying to talk on the phone as well

The JHB to PTA highway is a great place for cell phone stupidity sightings.
Once saw a women, heading towards PTA, in the fast lane, on the phone, with the cap of a Koki in her mouth, writing down the info she was receiving on the phone with the Koki pen in a book on her dash - how she was steering I have no idea....
