Can we trust a Renault?
I want to park the 200 Cruiser. It would be used for camping and overlanding purposes solely.
The Cross would go to the wife which leaves me needing a car. If I had a choice I would buy my 3rd FJ. But it’s simply not a option with the amount of km’s I drive on a daily basis.
I don’t want to spend more than R150K because whatever I buy would be a cash deal. But it’s R150K limit. Preferably new or as close to new as you can get.
So this Renault Kwid came up in my search. But can I really trust Renault?
I would be driving the car daily. All I need is something with a aircon and a radio. The rest of the shit I don’t care about.
Anything else?

You can get a 2 year old Suzuki Ignis with less than 60000km in his budget.
You'd have to be a real Cape Twat to choose the Kwid over that....

Drove a Kwid on a few occasions as a rental car...
I could stomach it for a day or two as a rental, but would not advise anyone to use it as a daily (POS)...
R150k should get you a Suziki Swift that is 2-3 years old which I think is much better than the Kwid

With all things French, the following rule applies:
If it is French and you can't eat it, drink it or f#*k it, don't spend money on it!

I would seriously look at the Suzuki Ignis. We were considering it if the insurance company did not decrease on my wife's BM.

I think Renault is quite ok in the regard of good, usable vehicles. And they have a good aftermarket service rep of late.
However, please consider the fact that the Kwid, is a budget Go.
It is based on the Go's platform but has a crappier engine and shortcuts have been taken everywhere to save costs.
If there is a Renault I would not get then it's the Kwid (I also think it is the only one with a very poor service plan and warrantee)

The Suzuki Swift is a great car. My ex has one of the first Swifts when they launched it in SA. It handles like a go-cart and the 1500 motor is a pleasure to peddle around.
My experience with French car's in general, don't waste your money on them. They are great for the dealer because you spend lots of money keeping them going.

Years ago another member started a Thread "The VW UP! as a viable Platkar".
I deleted the Thread.
Now Mike starts a Renault Kwid Thread.
The two have a lot in common:
Both from CapeTown.
Both obsessed with Bitch Mobiles.
Both hate kW.
Only difference is the 1st one was more fruity and ran an Restaurant (into the ground).
