Mean Mother Manny's Mikem Coil Conundrum

Manny I collected my Vehicle this morning and I am super impressed again. I had the progressive coil/Bilstein on my Prado150Tx and now the same on my 120.

Harder ride but a lot better than the kk Camil suspension I had on, Camil suspension looked impressive but it was junk IMHO.


I also collected my BL this morning and the sag on the Prado now vs with Camil, is like comparing Manny to a good person[emoji16].

I can’t talk on Manny’s behalf but my Prado’s new suspension is very stiff but, I’d gladly take it over rear sagging.

Maybe I should take my Fortuner to Darrel as well. Rear also sags when loaded and when towing. I have OME Medium duty at the back.

I've always said:
- if you want comfort or articulation, suspension needs to be soft
- if you want load capability, suspension needs to be hard

No amount of progressively wound coils will give you a perfect solution in all situations. In fact, they can sometimes be worse than standard.
Also, the correct shocks must be used: I would say on a multi-use vehicle with multiple roles and load profiles, compression and rebound adjustment would be mandatory (but who has the bucks for remote reservoir shocks........)

Also, airbags should be used as a last resort, and you better understand the limitations and risks.

Lastly: spec and fit springs and shocks for the 80% of drive conditions that you will experience.

D1. Basically a RRC with a better body.
D2 had ACE which was a lot more complex.
