The cost of spares!!!!
So a work colleague has a 2006 mazda 2.5 td.
Standing at 180k km.
Her fuel consumption has dropped from 10km/l to 7.... .
She decided to have the diesel pump done, injectors checked etc.
As a matter of interest she phoned Mazda to find out the cost of new injectors......
Well it turns out there are two possible types for her motor - the one set would cost R30 k and the other set R66k!
WTF?
Our work BT50's, R32k for a dual mass clutch!
It's utter madness!!!

It is simply a matter of supply and demand Shane. But good 'ol Mannny will be along shortly to brag about how cheap Toyota parts are.
There are good pirate parts on the market (there is a flipside to exorbitantly priced OME parts). Perhaps consider that route.

What has been dramatic for me is how much prices have increased in the last relatively short while. I think I mentioned this on another thread about my confusion with the platkar service recently (incorrect plug gap).
About a year ago, I serviced the LF's platkar. The service kit (filters, plugs, oil etc) cost me just over R1k. Cannot remember exactly - I think it was about R1200. A few months ago, it was due for a service again. The same service kit at the same spot cost me just over R2600.

Opel Corsa Gamma. I normally buy the service kit at the dealers which is more expensive, yes. But it is still over a grand increase in about a year.
The service kit consists of filters (pollen, air, oil and fuel), spark plugs and sump washer. The oil I get at Midas. The price above includes oil.

I generally look for better prices but certain parts you can only get from the stealers.Ricoffy wrote:It is simply a matter of supply and demand Shane. But good 'ol Mannny will be along shortly to brag about how cheap Toyota parts are.

Like the dual mass clutches on the BT 50's. It seems that only the dealers supply them.
To me, it just boggles the mind that you would pay R60k+ for injectors for a vehicle valued at 100-120k.....
But these are the times we live in.
It is what it is.

Shane, in absence of working injectors, the vehicle's value will be scrap. You have to keep this in mind.Shane wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 1:08 pmI generally look for better prices but certain parts you can only get from the stealers.Ricoffy wrote:It is simply a matter of supply and demand Shane. It is an old car and parts are scarce, but I still think if you shop around, you will be able to get a decent set at a 1/3 of the current asking price. That reminds me, have a look at nearby scrap yards - they might have a 2nd hand set lying around somewhere.

TD5 injectors were R5k each some years back,

For injectors, contact Moda Diesel on 076 188 6425. Ask for Marco and tell him I referred you.
He might be able to work some magic with the tired injectors.
