Welcome to;

Mad Manny's Monthly Motoring Mag Review Two - 2022 & Beyond!

I decided to start a new Thread as the old Thread, which ran from the start of the Forum in March 2018 to end 2021, was getting a bit long.
Here is the link to the old Thread, if you want to refer back to it.

The December 2022 Mags...

CAR Magazine - December 2021

Whilst it's a good issue - they cover all the upcoming vehicles for 2022 - there is VERY little of interest to us, the Off-Road User/Overlander.

They mention the new Ranger & D-Max - but you already know they're coming.
Jeep is launching new models - Grand Cherokee& Compass - in case you didn't know.
Mitsubishi may launch a new Triton/Pajero Sport.

They DRIVE the LC300.

There is a TEST of the new Defender 90 D240 S (R1.2 bar, 2.0 liter diesel 177kW)
They say it's better than the X3 & the Prado.

Then they TEST the Defender 110 D300 X (R1.7 bar 3.0 diesel 221kW)
They say the BMW X7 is better, 3rd place went to the LC 300 ZX.

Their LONG TERM Ranger (Like Ricoffy's) is averaging 9.0L/100km over 2000km.
Clearly Ricoffy drives like a chop.

The NUMBERS - only 50% of Saffa's wear seatbelts.
Highest is GP with 56%.
Lowest is the FS with only 40%

That's all folks!

The December 2022 Mags...

ADVENTURE Africa Magazine - November/December 2021

Adventure Africa doesn't date their mags, but I assume Issue 13 was the November edition as I bought issue 14 in December.

Issue 13 Zambia on cover.

HEADLINES:
Ford donated Rangers to the KNP Carnivore Conservation Programme.

Suzuki Jimny's, sold in SA from late 2021, will be from the Gurgaon Plant in India & no longer from Japan.
The plant will allow a massive increase in Jimny production in some countries waiting lists stretched to 20 years.

There's a new Flagship Range Rover - it'll be like, R3.4 bar I believe.

Kingsley went on a new adventure - using New Defenders - so he'll be gone for a very long time. :D

GEAR & GADGETS:
Replacement Bumpers, nifty soft sand pegs (Christo) a Smart Battery Charger, a single Plate 'suitcase' Butane Cooker, a new ARB Zero Fridge Freezer (R24k for the 96 liter) & a range of Garmin GPS's for R12k +...

TRIPS & TRAVEL
The IRONVAN trip to Moz with Alti - I watched the series on Youtube.

Black Boy & the MEERKAT Squad (Black Overlanders) do the Northern Cape - I follow Stevoski on Youtube.
They are huge fun (& never on time)...

The cover article on Zambia - Andre Van Vuuren Safaris does Luangwa.

Then 8 women do Bots on horseback over 8 days/300km.

Pretoriuskop in KNP - review by Sunset Adventure Travel.

Trygwe Roberts does the Moteng Pass in Lesotho.

CAMPING:
5 spots in Mpumalanga - Marloth Safari Park, Elandskloof Trout Farm, Oppie Rooiplaas, Lake Umuzi Camp Oasis & Kimburu Bushcamp.

SNAKES:
The Gaboon Adder

PHOTOGRAPHY:
Nice article for the photographers.

TECHNICAL:
Smart DC-DC chargers - very interesting.

GLAMPING:
Tento Luxury Lodge (fixed) tents.

BEHIND THE WHEEL:
The Van Zyl Family go on a trip in a new Land Cruiser 300 GR-S.

MY RIDE & I:
Four vehicles featured - none by 4x4AG members, this time, but I know two of them; Kobus Vermaak & Johan Ungerer.

My FOUR WHEEL PARTNER:
Youtubers David & Sue introduce their red Trailblazer.

...and finally, that's it!

Chas, according to the1/3 page long article on page Page 11 of the 13th Issue of Adventure Magazine:

"The Defender Transcontinental Expedition will be Kingsley's first real-life expedition in the new Defender outside of South African borders" [he obviously wanted to see if they'd last before venturing too far from home ~ M].

"The core Holgate team will be using two expedition-kitted P400 Defenders for the entire journey, with other team members joining along the way in their own Defenders."

"The two [P400} Defenders are well travelled, having completed the 80 day 16000km Mzanzi Edge expedition...."
Hard to believe they lasted 16000km.

Buy the mag Chas...
