2019 Suzuki Jimny/Sierra
So a NEW Jimny is going to be launched soon.
Here's what we know:
1. What it looks like.
2. What the dash looks like.
3. What engines it will have (1.0 Boosterjet turbo, 1.2 & maybe 1.5)
4. That there will be NO Diesel (in fact Suzuki will no longer offer any Diesels).
5. That it will still have a Ladder Frame Chassis.
6. That it will still be SFA.
7. That it will still have LR.
Here's what we don't know:
1. When it will be launched.
2. Which engines SA will get.
3. If the diamentions have grown (I certainly hope so)

The new Jimny excites me very very much. But I am concerned about a 1L turbo engine, turbo lag and so on. And low rev driving when the turbo have not yet revved up. The looks have gone back to the square look of the SJ410 and 413.

It’s good to see that they haven’t messed with the formula.
There shouldn’t be much lag because it’s VVT. I just googled the specs & the torque looks pretty healthy from low revs all they way to 4000 rpm. I bet it’s going to be even lighter so it should be pretty handy offroad.
1.0 Litre BoosterJet:
3-cylinder, 12 valve, VVT, Direct-injection
POWER: 82 kW @ 5,500 rpm
TORQUE: 160 Nm @ 1,500-4,000

Compared to the current 1.3
That's 30% more power and 45% more torque, both at slightly lower revs...
The only thing I don't like is they say they'll stick with a 5 speed manual & 4 speed auto.
I was rather hoping those would get at least one additional cog each...
Clearly the BoosterJet will be a vast improvement.

It looks like it’s going to be a winner then.
Personally I don’t believe in small capacity autos for offroad, Petrol or diesel. A manual is far more drivable.

Its going to sell, hell, I'd love to have one, after you've had it a year or so slap on a full free flow and get some sort of chip to up the boost a tad and you'll enjoy it even more.
On the gearbox front they are probably going to use the same boxes as the current model, keep it cheaper.

Has it been confirmed that SA will get the 1.0?XJ Junkie wrote:It’s good to see that they haven’t messed with the formula.

I've driven the current Jimny Automatic off-road, in my opinion it's better than the manual. It still has the ability to launch from stand still, has the torque multiplying effect, and it doesn't stall.

Small engines need to be worked. Autos don’t have the same gear control as a manual. You also can’t rev them for fast pull aways.Saxj wrote:

You can always "wind up" the torque converter by keeping your foot on the brake and the accelerator at the same time. This works fairly well as a means of "launch control" on smaller automatics. That said, I am also not a great lover of small engined automatics.
I refuse to be POLITICALLY CORRECT to impress others - Deal with it

You're right, us poor old Safricans will get the n/a motors, Europe will get the turbo motor, and no matter how much we cry Suzuki SA will give us some automated response like "3rd world" "poor fuel quality" whaadaa whaadaaOppies3800 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 14, 2018 5:03 amHas it been confirmed that SA will get the 1.0?XJ Junkie wrote:It’s good to see that they haven’t messed with the formula.
