We did 3 nights and 4 days at Olifants River Lodge last week Thursday to Sunday.
The last time we were there was about 6years ago.
We thought we knew exactly what to expect but it was much much better!
Firstly there is a new section of road that is partly tar now, so the 14odd km of "sinkplaatpad" is down to just under 7km.
When we got there the Thursday the road was quite bad at some sections, especially if you are towing something. But on Friday the road was grated after the rain on Thursday evening. So they do maintain the road often.
On arrival, book in is quick and easy with no hassels.
There use to be only 3 smallish amblutions and 40 camp sites.
They have recently built a big ablution block and I would guess there is closer to about 60 campsites now.
The campsites next to the river looks like they have been leveled and looks a lot more appealing than what they use to be.
There is a lot of big trees scatter throughout and taps, braai's and dusbins with electrical points.
They also have round paved circles where you can make campfires safely on the ground.
At the pool area there are still the 2 round pools (one being a kiddies pool) but they have built a huge indoor swimming complex.
I call it a complex because you get a big indoor heated pool in the top area that overflows to a smaller shallower pool for "big" kids and that then overflows into a big kiddies/toddler pool. It has benches and full bathrooms so you can get dressed at the pool. (nice for kids and wife's)
A new playground has been built with a few fountain etc which should be nice for kids in the summer. It has a track for those black kick bikes as well. There is also the normal jungle gym playground for bigger kids
The kiosk is basic but there is a bit of everything.
They also have 2 restaurants on site. One a bit casual and the other a bit more formal.
There are horse rides and mini quad rides as well as paddle boats and fishing in the river.
Overall we really enjoyed it and everything was always neat and clean, which is what you would expect from a 3star camping facility.
Pictures to follow in next post.

I've asked for a quote, should get it next week.KurtG wrote:Year end function?
Apparently there is a new 4x4 track that someone uses for training at the mines close by so they will get me those details as well and they will quote on breakfast for the Sunday morning.
Then we can have breakfast, pack up and GO, and we don't have to make breakfast and do dishes etc.
