Chas, if you had a choice, which one of these two legendary vehicles would you take?

It's a crying shame your lovely daughters have to see you reduced to driving a frugal MPV in a parking lot, when they grew up seeing you commanding a powerful 4x4 SUV through the African Savannah.

More capable off-road than a Navara;
More reliable than a Disco;
More spacious than a Jimny (even the 5-door);
More dust proof in the back than a Hilux;
More fuel efficient than a Patrol….

My kids think I made a very wise choice, thank you very much

Did they just hose down that parking lot or is that wet tar from the rain?

It’s the oil from the Landy

Kurt ...
You could probly hire an equipped Landy,
or of some other respectable 4*4,
from a local outlet near you ,
and go camping in the wilds ,
... like in North Wales
where folk I know go ...
( ... would beat sitting around
in some wet car-park ... )

It has to be the Getz, cheap to run, reliable and pretty good resale value

I won't touch VW again, stupid things are expensive to fix and they have too many "common" issues. 2 Polo's in a row and I have finally learnt....

Ge’off, I’m now on my third VW and have had no issues so far.

My sample is bigger than yours (3 vs 2) so by deduction VW are very reliable

I bought a VW Polo new about 3-4 years ago
and paid additional for their radio sound system
which turned out to be a lemon.
After much arguing and threatening they said they'd replace it,
... found out they just exchanged from a Demo Car !

Recently the starter went ... they charged R1500
to ' find /assess 'the problem and quoted R6-8000
to supply and fit a new starter over 1-2 days;
... my local Indi charged R1200 and did it in a morning .
More recently not one but BOTH low beams
went , within a week of each other !

VW is no longer the class act of quality & service
which they once were ... many years ago.

The VW 'brand' is not worth the excessive big premium you pay and their service here in SA makes you soon realise we live a hell of a long way from WolfsBurg .

Chas, there is a saying which you may have heard before:

“One swallow does not make a summer”

(The bird, Manny, not the act of swallowing )
