I never understood the reasoning behind a drawer system for a bakkie. Effectively you lose 60% of your loadbin to gain 2 drawers.

I am sure it works well, but I wouldn't do it.

As for security, yes, it does provide for a safe secure space, but so does a canopy too.

One benefit of drawers is being able to reach things in the rear of the bak and also to keep things in order.

But why don’t okes just buy an SUV rather and then you don’t need to spend money on drawers and canopies ?

Depends on what you do with your bakkie.
The one I have build for the Cruiser just makes life so much easier and better orginised.

Yes I also do agree it can be in the way when loading stuff bakkies are made to carry.
My system can slide out in 5 minutes have full use of the bak and canopy.

Also can take it off with the canopy if needed.

Yes Kurt.

I will be able to pack all of this safely in a SUV...

I am in the process of putting in a shelf system
along the full 165cm length of my canopy and
reaching in some 45cm . It will provide an equivalent
storage volume of 7 or 8 ammoboxes ... accessible from
2 gullwing windows ... or from inside.
Will remove and sell my existing 4box Frontrunner
drawer system.
This change will provide me with
1. Ample shelf storage as above
2 A platform of some 165cm*120cm
to sleep on or store equipment on or ...
2b have an 80cm access aisle up center of canopy
3 Maintaining acccess to existing 'basement' storage volume below my existing canopy platform
ie 165*165*40cm
( before excluding of wheel-arch vols.)

I keep my fridge in my cab area behind the drivers seat
and I find a slide out fridge system etc is unnecessary,
however intuitively appealing others may believe it to be.

So, in short:
Im changing from Slide-Out to Reach-In...
and increased utilization of canopy vertical storage vol.
with increased accessibility to all my stuff.

... once my project is well under way
I will do a full write up / 'build'-thread
on this epic revolution...

Sounds good Chas, please share pics.

I have decided to build my own drawer system.
The other stuff is just too expensive.

Shane... I will put sliders on each side of the aisle
to optionally accommodate a pair of drawers or sliding
platform as well ... if and when needed .
