Tyre advice please

Post by XJ Junkie »

I’ll be in the market pretty soon for another set of AT tyres.

My Yokohama Geolanders are now on 101kkm & I’m happy to fit the same again, but what other options are as good?

Stock size was 215/65 R16.
I’m limited by size options with the wider 235/60 R16 that’s currently fitted. I want to retain this size.

I don't know if they are available in your size, but I had a good look at the Grabber AT3's last week.

They look the business and I can understand why they are rated so highly. If they were available in my sizes, it would be a tire I would seriously consider

I seem to recall that they weren’t available in that size but I must check again. They are apparently very good

I fitted Goodyear Wranglers A/T with the Kevlar in the sidewall before we did the mountain passes trip.
I'm very happy with the traction and general performance of them throughout the trip.
They are very well priced at between R1600.00 and R2000.00 each for the 245/70-16 that I fitted.

Can’t find the Wrangler in my size but they are also highly rated by the looks of it.

Anyone know how the Geolander GO12 & GO15 compare?

The only other options that I’ve come across are Hankook Dynopro, Dunlop AT3 & Michelin Latitude, but that last one looks like a racing slick.

I have the Geolanders on the 200 Cruiser.

Done 4000 odd km’s recently through Nam. When I see you again you can have a look and see if you can spot any damage. They held up well

Are yours the G12 or G15? Mine’s the GO12 & it looks like I’ll probably fit them again. Price is around the R1600 mark.

I like Hankooks but their prices have gone silly.

I also need to look for tyres. Either 265/75x16 or 245/75x17 to use as dedicated off road tyres. In road performance is not important as I have a decent set of HTs on RooiTjiep at the moment and 2 sets of spare rims (16 snd 17 inch)
Love the Kooks but as you say their prices have gone nuts
