Removable tow hitch - smaller footprint

Gents and Kells,

On my Prado 120, i have a removable two position tow hitch which is secured with 2x big-ass bolts. It is a proper hitch and I doubt it will ever come loose or break but the thing is heavy and acts as a plough on a 4x4 course.

I remove the hitch when I go on trails/trips but you never know when another vehicle breaks down and then I might have to step in and tow a caravan/trailer.

I do not want to carry my current hitch/plough in the car when I am not towing but i want to keep a lower/smaller spec hitch in one of my plastic cases for emergencies.

What are your thoughts on this hitch (it comes with a 50mm removable tow ball) for emergency towing?

I don’t see why not Wessel, looks decent enough. Just check the clearance of your spaarwiel with the ball in place

If it is lighter and smaller then it is the way to go.

#deviouskurt has a valid point. He had and I have the same problem with clearance between the ball and the spare wheel. I had to fit a special bracket to raise the spare wheel, in order to raise the towbar ball height.

This very same #deviouskurt sold it to me, very thankful I am!

As I recall, this versatile hitch is mainly there for towing a BushLapa and Prados' are seldom
summoned or capable to recover others ...
... if it also compromises your departure angle
perhaps its been inappropriately fitted or used ?

Chas, I know I did not type in king James’ english and therefor you do not understand.

Enlighten me how I can make it easier for thee to understand? Would a ruler (to read my post line by line) or pictures help thee understand better?

Here is the current heavy duty tow hitch/ plough that I want to replace with a smaller/shorter/lower speced tow hitch for emergencies.

Chas, this will improve my departure angle at the back...

That is a good point!!!

As nice as those hooks are for towing, I would never use it as a recovery point, you are relying on the strength of the locating pin to bear all the weight of a recovery. These can become dangerous
