Your most difficult 4x4 route driven.
Which route is your most difficult route driven, and why?
Mine:
- Erdvark. It's near Beaufort West. Very narrow. Big climbs and tight turns. I still had my Ranger back then. It was tough. Lost two tires on that route. Would love to go back and do it with the FJ. The 200 won't make it. It's too wide
- Impangele. It's near De Doorns. Onto a mountain and through a dry, tight river with big rocks. Did it with both the Ranger and FJ. More difficult with the Ranger because of it's length.
- Road to Hell. Richtersveld. Fantastic route. Wouldn't want to tackle it with the 200 or a bakkie. You could be in for a long day. The guys that say you don't need a spotter for 4x4íng, never drove this route. You need a spotter you can trust.
So. Your most difficult 4x4 routes?

Great Thread!
If I think of Difficulty & Scariness;
As Routes go:
Definitely Road to Hell as well as some of the passes we did on the 10 passes trip, like Ben Macdhui above Tiffendal
In terms of Trails:
Moegatle (near Brits), Att Se Gat (near Moegatle), Piet Se Pad (near Swazi border), parts of the Rebellie/Old Postal Route
In terms of Obstacles only:
Koos Klim at Moegatle - not difficult, but you need big Kahoona's
Briekmerk at Att Se Gat - difficult, you need balls, skill & a good spotter.
Road to hell - need balls & a spotter.

There are very few obstacles I've been too scared to attempt, but the one I couldn't do was Superman @ Rust De Winter.
If I had a front locker & was feeling brave, then maybe.
The problem with it is, if you get it wrong, you'll roll down that ravine for a good few minutes & no one is going to get to you to recover the body...
Anthony Forgey did it at the 2020 Patrol Forum YEF, I'll get him to post his video...

Never been too brave but in a bog standard vehicle:
Berakah
Bass Lake
Koranna
Swakop dunes
Berakah

Swakop dunes
At se Gat Z- draai did it in my Jimny
Moegatle Koos se Klim did it twice not sure if I will do it again.
Rebellie / Old Mill not too difficult but the heights and ledges gets your heart pumping
Swaziland Hlane mud ............ got stuck in the mud while elephants charged us
locked front, rear and the doors and moered it.
Barakah pole crossings ......... I hate pole crossings
Rubicon Trail Big Sluice and Cadillac Hill well the whole trail is one difficult obstacle
Scariest of de Wildt is the Pajero's doing the obstacles

I don’t really have the vehicle for tricks on mountains ...
Center difflock only, no traction control , poor turning circle and too long etc
... but it and I, blunder on!
I’ve done the passes including MacDui,
and most of the well known trails but excluding the Grade 5s !
At 3 Provs nearly rolled on steep wet muddy decline,
but did the long rocky bouldery ascent up to the plateau .
The most testing (and enjoyable) would be along, and in, the Oliphants River
from somewhere near Chunniespoort to somewhere near Burgersfort.
You need A1 guides and recovery equipment or you could easily drown/lose the vehicle.

Victor (SAXJ) is fearless and has done some very rough stuff (It doesnt get tougher than Carnage Canyon & I watched him do it).
But I must disagree with one point, Hels Hoogte at 3P is neither difficult or scary.
I've done it twice - you just floor it and aim.... no skill required.

Van Zyl's Pass Namibia. Not just the pass but the whole route to it from Okangwati
as well. Did it first time just with the Cruiser and a decent guide. Did it second time towing the Metalian with Allyson guiding.
Did Koos Se Klim. Was not scary at all. I had Flipside in my car giving advice!!!!
