Have a look at a LC actual cost.
What does it cost to run?
What will the return on that car be?
What was the initial cost?
This is where the true figures come out.

I don’t think Toyota ever made a proper, efficient sub 2.5L off-roader, but.. go on, amaze us !

Chaz, Toyota makes efficient, reliable, proper engines that can do more than 99km/h. Pointless having an engine being efficient and proper that can only outrun a MB50 motorcycle

The low end New Defender is 2.2L ... only Toyota that would touch it would have to be a Track racer ... ?

Unless the engine is hybrid there is no efficient Toyota. All landrovers have engines that are smaller, more efficient, have better cruising speeds and acceleration and are more powerful than their Toyota counterparts. Toyota purposely makes them like this to make them more reliable.

Icemanza ... the interesting thing is, if you’ve paid for that New Land Cruiser and your friend still has an early V8 D3, traveling from Cape Town to Swakop, he’d enjoy a sundowner at the Swakopmunder yet you probably wouldn’t make last rounds ...

I hear you and partially agree. But, efficiency in my opinion also includes:

1. How long an engine will last
2. How many parts need replacement per 100k km

It is indeed amazing that you will argue despite having minimal subject matter knowledge.
The low end New Defender, the D240 has a 2.0 liter twin turbo diesel.
Not a 2.2 motor.

Disco3 V8 = 220kw, 427Nm, 2460kg
LC200 V8 = 200kw, 650Nm, 2600kg

Not much in it, but... given that the D3V8 would stop more for fuel it is likely the Land Cruiser would arrive first.
