I got stucked twice times.
One in the mud and once on a steep incline.
I've never had to have a winch pull me that much before.
Usually the tug gets you 30 or 40cm and you are good to go
Today, both times, I needed a pull of 2 or 3 meters before I got traction...

No.
Unlike 4WD Action now called $WD 24/7, I only called for the winch when there was absolutely no hope of forward or rearward progress...

What a pleasant day, it was nice to get out again given the Draconian restrictions implemented in the wake of Corona Virus.
We woke to a sub-zero morning, in fact it was still about -1 or 0 when we arrived at the venue.
Radio comms helped make the convoy from the Engen Blockhouse 1 Stop more effective.
A whopping 17 vehicles attended, we divided into 2 teams;
Team Alpha, under MartinDJ
1) MartindJ
2) RenierC
3) Owen
4) SamuraiX
5) Striker Colin
6) Neon Deon
7) Rabbiddog
8) Hendri Steyn
9) Douw
Team Omega under Manny
1) Manny
2) AntonB
3) Bugger
4) JC Le Roux (JacquesD4D)
5) ACSwartz
6) Wave
7) Avon
8) Juan Pierrie
After the brilliant briefing the teams headed out, Jansen's, like many trails, is in sore need of more traffic & we were glad to give the route some usage.
Both Teams had a wide array of vehicles, from a Rubi in each group, to fairly standard large modern double cabs.
Both Teams had a bit of drama, Martins had a split tyre & a recovery, our team also had a split tyre & a few recoveries - most were of Fearless
I think both tyres reminded us that you need your tyre changing equipment & skills in top condition.
The trail can be challenging & the more difficult parts make a spotter essential.
My THANKS to:
Firstly, Martin for initiating the event & assisting with planning & organising - Thank you Martin.
AntonB for assisting me with info & advice prior to the day.
All the guys who did spotting, Paul included.
Our hosts, Johan & Andre.
And of course, THANK YOU to ALL the drivers and passengers who attended - in all we were 38 people - not shabby for a -5 morning 130km+ from home during the restrictions.

Being lead vehicle you trust your skills and know where to place each wheel, Andre was my photographer, I drove blind on my own skills. Manny was clever in choosing the teams, I had the bigger responsibility with two stock standard vehicles in my group, a beautiful lwb Pajero, and very new Ford Wildtrack, a big Hummer, an FJ , two Disco's, and Deon 's awesome Jeep, and lastly Kyle in his Jeep, but what an awesome outing. Thank you all I enjoyed the day.

We both had a fair mix of capability wrt vehicles and drivers.Martin de Jager wrote: ↑Sun Jun 14, 2020 10:07 amManny was clever in choosing the teams, I had the bigger responsibility with two stock standard vehicles in my group...
You had a Rubi - I had a Rubi.
You had a fairly stock T6 Ranger - I had a Fairly stock KB6.
I also had 2 vehicles that were fairly low.
Also, when I split the groups I thought Paul was bringing his Stock Jimny (my group) & I did not know what Owen drove.
You had a lot of experienced guys, of your 9 only 1 or 2 were slightly less experienced.
So the split was in your favour at the time I did it, but was as close as dammit even on the day.
We did have Johan with who was a great spotter & guide though...
I did that on purpose so the new guys could be integrated effectively...
