It is frightening how uneducated and ignorant many in this country are.

Yesterday a local told me that if you drink alcohol, the virus can't infect you.HenriSteyn wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 10:16 amIt is frightening how uneducated and ignorant many in this country are.

He premised his assumption on the fact that doctors use alcohol swabs to wipe your arm before you get an injection.
Another local yocal told me to dilute one teaspoon of dettol in a glass of water and to drink that every day - it will kill the virus in your tummy.
FFS - I just hope it is not representative of the majority of the nation's view on corona.
If Lord Tennyson would allow me to rewrite his famous poem:
Imbeciles to the right of them
Imbeciles to the left of them
Imbeciles in front of them
Into the valley of death
charged the educated brigade..

I think the disease may linger for 3 or 4 months after lock down... maybe longer...
but it is irrelevant, they will have to lift the lock-down after 21 or maybe 28 days.
No economy, not one, will survive a lock-down of over 2 months- especially ours.
So even if we have 100000 cases in May, by June we have to get everyone back to work.
That's what China did, they declared it over when it wasn't and now they are managing the figures...

The 21 day period is only to allow governments to get a handle on the spread of the virus and to buy some time to get clinics, hospitals in order and to get manufactures of medicine, gloves, mask etc. some time to manufacture.

What is interesting (over here in Nam) are the public's absolute distrust in the figures provided by the Namibian Government. According to them, there is only 7 cases to date.
The law of averages dictate that there should be at least 40 cases by now.

Hell, Shane - if I had to spend 21 days cooped up at home without smokes, I'd probably wipe out the family - dogs included! And I REALLY love my dogs !!

It's going to be a long 21 days..... and I expect it will probably be extended given the behaviour of some!
Initially everyone will watch tv, catch up on house work and visit their favourite forums.
But I expect that people will soon tire of this as the novelty wears off.
I have to work, so for me it's business as usual. The lockdown should not affect me as much as someone living in a townhouse.
So why don't we start up a WA group just for this period. It's quick and easy to upload whatever you're busy with and could help some remain sane.... It will also prevent excessive data being uploaded to the forum.
Manny has the numbers and as the admin he can close it afterwards. Or whoever might be in charge of this.
Those currently working can post clips of their daily tasks. Those working on projects, at home or whatever....
The biggest battle will be a mental one to adhere to the rules. Who knows, this might help.
Just s thought.
