Roof rack & awning

#1

Post by Ricof4e »

Everyone knows the moment you fit a roof rack and awning to your 4x4, it instantly increases your vehicle's 4x4 capability.

Everyday I see true 4x4 enthusiasts with roof racks and awnings fitted permanently to their 4x4s as they go about their daily tasks - hell some of them even has jerry cans and axes fitted permanently - you know, for when they need it to refill at the mall or chop down their store-bought Spar charcoal.

I must be a 4x4 yobbo then - a true 4x4 pretender.

The first thing I do when I get back from a trip - where I actually need a roof rack and awning - I take it off, clean it and store it neatly away. The increased fuel consumption forces me to do so.

Perhaps I need to fit a snorkel then - to make up for the loss in power and to increase fuel consumption. Yes! Then I never have to take off my rack and awning!

My rooftop tent, awning and water tank stays on permanently. But then it's not my everyday transport.

I'm lazy, my RTT comes off, the car cannot fit in the garage with it on.
My awning, stays, but thats all, so I pretty much, currently, drive around with just a roof rack on, but it has come in handy when all of a sudden something long or too big to go in the car needs to be transported and we just slap it on the roof rack. I carry 4 small ratchet straps in the car now, just for this reason.

I have one of those Fredlin Hoists, but need to actually fit it to my carport roof, its still in the box  . Currently time is limited, maybe in the next 2 weeks I can get it fitted, refit the RTT and then remove the whole setup.

Rooftop and awning comes off, but roof rack stays, LR without looks a bit bare and a schlepp to take off, working on the spade and axe “looks cool “ besides you might need them to get out of potholes around here [emoji16]

What a silly post, I don’t understand why fit something then remove it and have to refit it when you go away. Who has all that time [emoji1787][emoji1787]

Gareth, if you go for a hike, do you take off your backpack when you stop for lunch or do you just keep wearing it?

No I don't.
I put shoes on to go to P'nP
But later, when I go to bed, I take my shoes off.

Are you starting to get our point, or are you too busy scrubbing polish off bed sheets?
