After last night's test to see how far Sami can go on a tank of juice, or better; how far under the "E" line the fuel needle goes, it was time to change the fuel filter... as you can see some useless grease monkey decided its better to use a budget plastic in-line filter then the metal OEM or similar filter (as I'm sure GUD or Donaldson will make a similar metal job) the had also cut the fuel lines shorter, I can only imagine to stop the pipes getting caught in the suspension parts, so I had to replace those too with longer items.

I soon found out after purchasing Sami that there is no steering dampener, so a little research showed that Zombie Off-road makes an kit, it's a simple installation, took about 30mins to install start to finish

Ok, so after a lot of trying/fiddling/phaffing I could not get the transfer case into low range.
I decided to take it someone who knows, all the guys on the Suzuki WhatsApp group recommended Chris from Cote 88 in Pretoria aka Chris Cote, I booked Sami in and went through in the early hours of this morning to miss that dreaded N1 traffic, Chris and his guys took a whole 30 mins to sort the problem. He really does seem to know his stuff with Suzuki's and all you see in his workshop are Jimny's, Sj's and Samurais
So the good news is I now have a real 4x4 that can actually go into Low Range. Now to test it out...

On Friday I had some time, so I drained the coolant, replaced the thermostat, temperature sender unit and all the clamps on the coolant pipes. Replaced the coolant with Castrol pre-mix. As you can see, the internal cooling system seems to be in pretty good shape for a 22 year old car.
Now on 85000kms or 185000kms or 285000kms, we'll never really know...

If you pay attention, this past weekend was the club AGM @ Berakah 4x4, so I just had to take Sami for a long drive, it had to be done sooner or later. I hooked up a tiny Venter Glider, slapped on the Queens bicycle and off we went, Sami performed flawlessly keeping to a max speed of 100kph.
Fuel consumption was 10.9l/100kms when I filled up in Parys on the way back, not to bad for a 1.3 carb fed motor.
The only thing we missed as air-con, but in time that will come.
