A Fortuner will go anywhere a Wrangler will go provided they are equally modded.

In the All Conquering Fearless 3Lo is exactly the same as 1Hi.
So it can pull away in 3Lo.

But it just shows, instead of
1Lo
2Lo
3lo/1Hi
4Lo/2Hi
5Lo/3Hi
4Hi
5Hi

They could have just given me a 7 speed box where 1 is the same as 1Lo & 2 is the same as 2Lo.

Basically what Amarok did with the Auto.

But I'd need Rlo & RHi...

I have a few 4x4` that can pull away in 4H. I use this as the ultimate low down torque test for a 4x4. None of the little engines with manual boxes can do it.
You will never find me without Stroh or a 4x4 :D

Is it economical ?

Because I can't see a vehicle pulling away in a 1:1 gear being economical...

No little engines that cannot pull away in 4H is economical. that is true. :D

On paper the GD 6 2.8 Hilux have about the same torque as the v8 Cruiser. 4H with taking tyre sizes in account is about the same ratio.
There is no way you can pull away in 4H. The Cruiser does it with ease. No matter how many turbo`s or chargers on a small engine they will never be able to duplicate the torque of a large capacity engine below 2000rpm. Appoc need to explain the flywheel effect of the larger and heavier rotating assembly on a large engine vs a small one.

Yes Manny the 2.8 GD6 gives 11.0km/l

Depends on a multitude of factors , not least of all the diff ratio.

Most unladen trucks can pull off in top as well, and they are very economical...

But more to the point... economical doesn’t make for a good 4x4...

The 8 speed box you are talking about has a narrow range of ratios. You get a far better spread with a hi range abs low range. I’m trying to imagine you handling a 10 speed manual and now my ribs hurt from laughing ...
