Does it make sense to buy the Ranger Raptor?

Saw it in the flesh yesterday.

I had to really look hard to distinguish between it and the fake Raptors.

Didn't see the inside, so can't comment on that. But I did see a few photos of the inside, and it looks pretty much the same as a normal Ranger.

If I had to buy a Ford bakkie at the moment, I wouldn't hesitate to buy the 3.2 Manual

Exactly.

I read the CAR review on the single turbo D/C. I expected better (of the ford, not the journalist). It seems that 10speed auto is a bit off-putting. I would take the 3.2 any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Further on my post above, have a look at the performance of the Raptor vs the Biturbo 2.0lt Wildtrack model.

The Raptor is slow off the mark, heavy and cumbersome.

Again, I would take the 3.2 any day of the week.

I think you are missing the point of the Raptor, and don't understand the implications of its "modifications" compared to a "normal" version...

It is not created to be faster off the line. It was created to be faster over rough terrain... Imagine the value this is for overlanding or for people travelling over vast distances on rough gravel.

Without meaning any offence to anyone, I say the following: I have driven the Raptor, I can only ask you to do the same, before commenting further about its performance.

In my opinion, its ability is unmatched by any other standard vehicle - and yes, you buy it from the dealer as is, thus it is a standard vehicle

Agreed. I'll see if I can schedule a test drive somewhere next week. Although I don't think the local dealer will allow me to go off-road with it.

I might be wrong, but I think you need to put a sizable deposit down before you can test drive it.

The dealer is a client of mine - I don't think it will be an issue. If he charges me a large deposit before I can drive it, the same will apply when he wants to consult with me

I was invited to test drive the Raptor two weeks ago. Unfortunately I had booked a hunt on the same weekend so I missed the opportunity.
The Ford guys still love me  Hope next time around I will get my turn.

I was at Ford SA in Silverton last week. I had a good look at the Raptor and it is definitely built to off road. It is not only the Fox suspension and 33’ rubber; there is a number of other additions I do not see on the normal new Ranger with the same powertrain. The raptor has some serious recovery points (2 at the back and 2 in front), a steel rear bumper, better approach clearance in front of the front wheels, proper solid steel sidesteps and a number of other items that this 53 year old brain cannot recall.

Is it worth it to buy a Raptor other than the standard new Ranger? I absolutely think so as all of these “modifications” is covered under the warranty.

For all the recoveries to strap them to your trailer? Sounds about right for a Ford

Personally...
If I were in the market for a new Ford Ranger 4x4 D/Cab.
I think I'd be a fool to take the XLT or Wildtrak over the Raptor...

All hypothetical of course, I don't have the money, I'm not in the market & I don't even have a boyfriend...
