I've long said that the New Navara 2.3's rear coils were inferior in everyway to the leaf set up the competitors.

All reports & tests mentioned that the Navara was no better in ride & worse loaded than competitors.

The 'Coils are better' brigade disagreed with me....

Well... finally EVEN Nissan agrees that the Coils on the Navara were a stuff up;....

https://www.carmag.co.za/news/new-model ... n-updates/

From the article:

Meanwhile, the multi-link rear suspension system has also been revised with new dual-stage coil springs raising the rear end by 25 mm and improving the Navara’s payload by up to 46 kg (dependent on derivative).

So, IF these upgrades come to SA, THEN the Navara Coils may, finally, be a match for the leaf sprung opposition...

So let me see if I understand correctly. Nissan are revising the coils.......with coils. [emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787]

Progressive coils nogal. It’s getting better & better. By the time they perfect it, Yota will have something to copy for the next Hilux. Except they’ll initially also get it wrong by fitting coils off a Venture van, then wait 5 years to revise it.

Few would argue that coils are better than leafs for a work bakkie. But you’d have to be a complete knobsocket to believe that leafs will outperform coils off-road. Especially with articulation.

Old man your eyes are failing you. The coils have been upgraded - no mention that the previous (current) setup is kak - that's just your leaf sprung toyota biased view.

ALL the comparative tests I have read mentioned that the Navara had no rear suspension edge over it's Leaf Sprung competitors - in all categories(Laden, unladen, off road, comfort etc).
In fact, it was worse in some categories.

So they had to upgrade it (by upgrade I mean "Get it right eventually")...

there's ya problem,

you believe the drivel journalists post as fact, when it's actually their opinion.

I read a great article the other day where the clearly very knowledgable journalist claimed that the new Ferrari SF90 Stradale is the first flagship Ferrari with a V8.

This kind of genius is the kind of guy that is influencing your opinion on suspension?

The innovators will always suffer the burdens of development so that the laggards will have something to copy later.

But as mentioned before, they aren’t the first to use coils. Then yanks have been doing it forever

Innovators? Nissan? Are you stoned?
Nissan brought out a Coil sprung Pick-Up 50 years after it had first been done & still got it wrong.
Watch, they'll bring out the manual Choke next, then revise it...

Funny coming from a guy who drives a certain brand notoriously well known for suspension and stability issues. Perhaps Toyota can take a leaf out of Nissan's book...
