A Vehicle service 😂😂

FJ went in today

100000kms and it was the first one out of service plan

I had to ask for the Air Filter as an extra. I also asked for injectors to be done as well as a few chip marks

So the total for the extra stuff was about R2500

But I suspect it would be the last time I have it serviced at Toyota

I was at John Ratcliffe in Krugersdorp today - Donaldson Agents.
The Filter kit for a D-4D is R301.00.
No filter kit (Air, Oil & Fuel) is over R650.00.

I dunno what 'Spark Plugs' are - real engines don't have them - but they seem pricey.

I think you got ripped.

Download the My Toyota App, then you can see the cost before booking....

I do use the App and knew what costs we’re beforehand.

I also asked for extras to be done, therefore The inflated cost

R800 odd bucks for a pollen filter?????

You must be joking .

I don’t even see Vaseline on the bill so I can only imagine how your eyes are watering .

10k for a service on a Toyota is nuts, even with the extras.

The Wranglers last service at the dealers was R2500.

An average “non-60000km” service for a diesel Pajero is around R4500.

For the “every 60000km” Service it’s about R9k but then they do put in 9.8 liters of engine oil and they change the gearbox and diff oils too.

Flex is overrated

It's probably the 1st plugs since new, these modern petrol engines get new plugs every 100000kms or so, some sooner, I refuse to pay R800 for a pollen filter, Goldwagen sell one for R100 or a GUD from Midas should be about R170.

My 2000 KB280 DT (426 000km) needed a new Brake Master Cylinder today.
I went to Isuzu.
R5 800.00 incl VAT.

I went to HyperPart in Krugersdorp (after popping in to John Ratcliffe).
Pirate part (that looks EXACTLY the same) R532.00

Less than 10% of the OEM price.

It will probably only last 10% as long as the OEM one did - but that's 42 600km.
I'm happy with that - we do less than 10k km a year with that old KB...

I buy my Fortuner pollen filter from goldwagen I ask for the blue print brand. Think it’s under R80...... decent quality, it’s made in Germany.

On the Isuzu stuff.....

Replaced the gearbox oil on the Isuzu Frontier.

The Kb 320 takes just under 5 liters including the transfer case.

5L of BOT402 oil @R126 per liter... total was R630. Lucky I don’t do this often.

Full service, with all filters, liquids in engine, diffs, t-case and gearbox is about 6k.

I have not serviced Thor yet, but the last complete service on RooiTjiep amounted to around R4000 - it included around R1900 for the snake oil for the diffs and transfer case from Chrysler, plugs, filters and engine oil and filters and lube for the transmission. I suspect the titanium tipped plugs required by Thor will add somewhat to the cost. I do my own labour, though.

I will NEVER buy service parts from agents if I have a choice. A tip I received from the agent's workshop manager years ago when still buying new vehicles and warranty was an issue, was to buy the parts from their own parts dept beforehand and pay only for the workshop labour. The parts dept is usually run as a seperate business from the workshop and they (parts) book things out to the workshop at full price. When you buy from the parts dept you usually get a reasonable discount - in the case of the then DELTA dealer, it was up to 30% on certain items. I did this for items that were not readily available elsewhere, but Oil, spark plugs, brake pads and filters I bought form my friendly corner motor spares shop.

Well I just decided after yesterday that the FJ will from now on go somewhere else for a service

But that being said. The injectors, the spark plugs, pollen filter and air filter wont be done on the next one. So R9K will probably come down to R5K. A bit acceptable
