Fine by me - the discussion makes up part of your reasoning, though
I refuse to be POLITICALLY CORRECT to impress others - Deal with it

Hows the fuel economy on the FJ? Isn't the 4lt petrol a bit of a fuel guzzler?

Don’t go bigger than 3” lift, unless you upgrade control arms and drop the diff a bit.
Don’t go bigger than 33” tyres, unless you regear and do some body chopping.
Don’t put steel bumpers on unless you destroy the OEM bumpers, Then also consider the suspension set up to compensate for the extra weight, if you’re hell bent on steel bumpers.
Do add bash plate, gear box plate, transfer case plate and rock sliders.
For R100K, you could do the above I’m sure, but... top of the range suspension alone will eat half the budget. Before long you’re in for close to R200k if you’re not careful :)

Since you’ve owned an FJ already, I’m sure you know what a great vehicle it is.

Price of the sfa conversion will pay for lots of V6 fun

Then they only make auto which doesn’t have the flexibility of a manual. Whilst constant drive to the wheels is desirable, an autobox won’t be able to compete with manuals on certain obstacles.
An interesting statement. In what situations is the manual better? (I have an idea, but would like your opinion)

You can’t rev an auto for a high rpm pull away, when there’s a restrictive or short run up.

You can... although not quite a factory recommended technique.
(not sure how well this works on the newer, computer controlled, auto boxes)

With left foot stomp on the brakes as hard as you can.
With right foot pick up the RPM against slip in the torque convertor (will take a bit of testing to see how high the TC is happy with)
Now let go of the brakes and you launch quite well.

Just don't hold the torque convertor slipping at the higher RPM for to long. You will be building up a lot of heat quite quickly with the transmission fluid shearing like that.

This past trip into the Northern Cape and Richtersveld just confirmed again why I love the FJ so much

It’s comfortable, its very capable and I did not once worry about reliability.

I am seriously very happy with this vehicle

2022 Corolla Cross (Yes. It's a Hybrid)
BushLapa Ratel nr 731
