I think we need to explore the other option here.

you have a Defender you want to keep and a wife that can't drive it

A Cheery you don't want to keep and no one can drive it.

you need to sell something to get a small bakkie / runaround.

It seems to me that the obvious answer is to sell the wife!

🤣

Chris , sell the QQ , see what you can get ! Use as deposit for car for wife ! If you do not have to do school run and drop wife off , then your Km per day should be much less ?? Or am i wrong ??

Keep the Defender.

Buy a Chev Utility pick up.

Let the wife use it except on days you are doing distances & deliveries.

Or... buy a Vespa & load the Uber App on the wife's phone...

Just save fuel with your Defender, get on the R59,either way-pull to the side of the road, open bonnet, very soon a Toyota will stop and offer to tow you while taking pics, then when close to your destination, miraculously your LR will be fine.Repeat every day.Meanwhile tell your vrou that walking is good for her figure.

I went to test drive a 2014 Mahindra Double Cab.
The engine pulls well, turbo lag almost not noticable compared to the Defender.
The dash is very plastic and the previous owner had a lot of buttons installed but then removed the equipment so the buttons do nothing.
I like the aircon, major improvement when compared to the Defender and you have rear airvents for passangers in the back which is nice.
The seats are extremely hard, my Defender's seats are more comfortable, and thats saying a lot!
I like the bigger rear load bin.

Overall it's not bad at all.
But then after the test drive I got back in the landy, and even with it's rattels and gaps in the doors the build quality is just so much better.
The feel of the steering wheel and even the gear knob and shift is better.
Just the look of the dash and it's solid build is better, the "off white" plastic dash of the Mahindra compared to the black and leather dash of the Defender looks really bad.

So overall my 2005 Defender is "better" than a 2014 Mahindra Double cab, for me anyway.
For now I'm still driving the Defender.
Got a quote to fix the Chery, 13K, whole engine needs to be rebuilt so will see what we do with that, thinking of just selling it as scrap

They said they can but it will be on book value. Which is stupid because they sure as hell won't sell it for retail but much more.
