I installed a FrontRunner slim line 2 to the Fortuner this week.
Now my next step would be to get an awning. Something affordable but easy to open. If I can add sides panels later on to it that would be awesome as well. FrontRunner has a nice awning and you can add panels aswell.
What would you guys suggest?
I’m also not sure on size, the rack is just under 2 meters. So would a 2.5 meter awing be okay ?
Think very carefully before attaching an awning to your car permanently. Personally I don't think that the number of times that it is used warrants permanent installation which has an effect o n fuel consumption and adds to your vehicle being top heavy. Frontrunner have a very nice one about 3,5m x 2,5m that takes up very little packing space and is very easy to erect with one side temporarily attached to you roof rack.
I bought a 2nd hand Eezi Awn 2000, it's 2m long, super quick to set up and is stored in an aluminium case so won't get damaged by trees and thorns. I don't know about side walls though, maybe it's an option, but I did see Bugger was getting some made up for Baboons Pass next weekend.
As Andreas says, it's not something you use often, so choose carefully.

Rudi, are you sure the Featherlite is by Eezi Awn?
The Eezi-Awn Range includes the Bat270, Caravan, Lite, Manta, Series 1000, Series 2000, Spoyla and Swift.

Sorry, the lite is Eezy-Awn, featherlite is Front Runner. So to correct my earlier post, no complaints about the Eezy-Awn lite from my clients who have bought these from us.
Thanks guys, I went with the front runner one. The 270 awning is nice but it’s super heavy and the rear Fortuner door requires the awning to be mounted higher.
I went with Front Runners newer range of awnings. It’s a 2.5 meter and I did a 1700 km trip this week and seen no fuel increase. This was also my first long trip with my new exhaust so they may have canceled each other out.
