That’s the design I had on both my pajero’s and as you rightly point out the mounting on the chassis is very decent, provided 8 proper bolts are used instead of 4 like on some fitments.

This is a Towbar rated to tow 3.5t with a vertical load of 150kg. It mounts to the chassis with 6 m12 and 4 m16 bolts. The plate is 10mm thickness. You will also see there are no sharp corners in the design to prevent stress raisers.
It's a pity you can't fit something similar to your vehicle Henri.

Those towball extensions are specifically made for mounting the tow bar mounted bike racks on vehicles that have a Spare wheel above the tow hitch.

They are rated for 60kg.

The tow bar broke as it was when Mitsubishi fitted it.
Henri did not put an extension on it.
The Xplorer is within his vehicles tow rating.
So either Mitsubishi cocked up, or fatigue took hold of it.
Henri is not at fault here.

No. If the tow bar was bought with the extension and it broke then the buyer(Henri) is not at fault. But one can buy these extensions over the counter.

The one with the extension on was posted by paul saying it has a 3500kg rating . I pointed out that the extension is only rated for 60kg vertical load as it’s designed to carry a bike rack only .

I have one on the defender because it came with it , and it makes for good rear protection .

But it reduces the rating of the tow bar.

I think Chris, like myself, gets a bit up tight over the Kak chancy second rate juggernauts that people create with bad, substandard and dangerous towing arrangements .

They kill people . As far as I’m concerned it’s pre-meditated murder when these things let go and kill someone .

The bike rack extension fitted to the Defender.

The Defender tow bar is rated for a 6500kg drawn mass- not sure of the vertical load - to be safe at that load, it needs proper brakes and to be in low range .

With the extension fitted it’s rating drops to the 60kg that the extension limits it to .

Note the gusseting as a matter of interest - that’s properly placed to spread the load

You’ll also note that the Jeep’s towbar is in the ‘road’ position for those rear Enders…

The SWB had a TARE of 2095kg, quite a fat little shit actually. That’s more than most double cabs I think.

Ja ek baie towbars reg gemaak en geweld in die begin 2000 daar in Mosambiek.
Mens moet maar seker maak als is mooi vas en veral as jy swaar karavaan of trailer sleep , as daar n speeling is of iets kan op en af of kante toe beweeg gaan iets beslis breuk.
