Those are some of the most reliable vehicles you can buy. High or low mileage.
Could this be sarcasm?

If I can get it for 40k I would consider it.
Then if it snaps a crank I just scrap it Image

what you really need to consider with any vehicle is what state its going to be in when you've done 100 000km on it yourself - or whatever you will do on it, and what it will cost you...

so, an FJ is still in fair condition at 130 000km, and by 250 000km its going to be getting a bit tatty and time to move it on. if you keep it to 400 000km its just going to start costing money

something like a tata is already looking like it needs to go to the scrap yard at 150 000km.... by 250 000km its scrap.

to take something like a TDV6 at high mileage isn't entirely stupid - as mentioned if you pick one up for 50k or so and manage to get 50 000km out of it, thats R1 / km which is good value to drive a car like that.

Problem for a lot of people is that they can afford to finance a R500k car, but instead of getting something new with a imotirplan and warranty, they buy a 4 year old R1 bar car with 100 000km, no motor plan and no warranty. suddenly its not just a 10k payment, but 10k service and maintenance every 3 months and they cant actually afford it...

I bought my XJ with 294000kms.

I sold it 5 years later for the same amount I paid for it with a little over 360000kms. The only things I spent money on was, servicing engine and gearbox, new u-joints, new radiator, new filter and oil for transfer box and tyres. Those were the most costly things.
Other than that it was just fuel, point the nose where I wanted to go and off I went.

Some years back, also bought a e36 328i BMW with 250 000kms, sold it for just under 300 000kms.

I am not really scared of buying a high mileage vehicle, but I will inspect it thoroughly and make sure it's what I want and in a fair condition. Also depend on how many owners and price.

That’s about right. It’s quite common & there are any number of these engines around the states that have 650000 Km’s on them & still going.

The most I found was on 612000 miles, which is nearly 1 million km & still running well. But that particular example hadn’t been thrashed.

The I6’s found in the Cruisers, Patrols & Jeep TJ/XJ are known for being able to do serious mileage.

In the good old days I used to buy a new vehicle every year irrespective of the millage it's done. Now to expensive. My Ford Transit Panel van I bought new 5 years ago. Now standing on 325 000 k's. Only replaced front left wheel bearing. My Tuner bought second hand with low millage, now standing on 192 000 k's. Small problems like windscreen washer unit, front boot covers and crankshaft seal. That's all. My Jetta 1.9 diesel now standing on 32 000 k's and only problem I had was a few months ago the cam belt broke. Lucky no damage to the engine. They make cars much better these days. So if you look after it, you can gooi the millage.
