Land Cruiser 300 due soon - details
The Current Big Off-Road king - the Land Cruiser 200 Series was launched in 2007.
It replaced the 100 Series (which replaced the 80 series).
Fourteen years is a good lifespan, but now it needs an update.
The LC300 will be Petrol (only) & Hybrid (Toyota & the Greta's of the world hate Diesel)
Many reports say it will be a 3.5 Turbo & some models will be Hybrid.
This is the same offering as in the luxury Lexus LS500 Sedan.
Expect a massive jump in price to close to R2million.
The 4.5 V8 D-4D will slowly be phased out - it will only appear in the 70 Series Cruisers after the LC200 launch.

A fresh report out of Japan claims the upcoming Toyota Land Cruiser 300 will employ a 3,5-litre V6 petrol hybrid powertrain.
According to Japan’s Best Car, the successor to the Land Cruiser 200 will be revealed in early August 2020. The publication claims (as earlier reports suggested) Toyota will ditch the V8 engine in favour of a six-cylinder unit.
The latest report claims the 3,5-litre V6 hybrid mill will offer all four wheels some 220 kW and 356 N.m. While those figures are down on the 243 kW/460 N.m generated by the 4,6-litre V8 petrol engine offered in the outgoing model in some markets, it’s worth pointing out the new generation is expected to be considerably lighter.
It’s not yet clear what Toyota’s plans are in terms of diesel power for the upcoming Land Cruiser 300, what with the current model in South Africa employing a 4,5-litre V8 turbodiesel worth 195 kW and 650 N.m. Indeed, the Japanese report makes no mention of oil-burning options.
Interestingly, Best Car also claims the new model will be offered in two-row, five-seater form as well as three-row, eight-seater guise.

Sloppy cut & paste reporting.
220 kW and 356 N.m is the output of theV6 3.5 with NO Turbos.
With two Turbo's that motor puts out over 310kW & 600Nm.
The Hybrid V6 3.5 puts out 264kW & a wack of Torque.
Regarding the box, its a CVT coupled with a specially designed 4 speed Auto.
That means you have 4 steps in the CVT system.

The LC300 will move upmarket.
Then, in 2021 the NEW Prado/Lexus GX will move upmarket to fill the gap left by the LC200.
I then assume the next Fortuner will move into the space currently occupied by the Prado.
Whether a new model will be introduced to replace the Fortuner - I don't know.

... 2 bar capex ... and then there’s op-cost ...

... Veni Vidi Vici ...
To ponder.
Toyota might ditch diesel power, same as most other makes, trying to go green?
New Nissan Patrol is already available with twin turbo V6 and no diesel option. Possible that V8 might also be on way out?
And as to the 4l V6 in Prado and Fortuner, Hilux, the same engine in Tacoma already replaced with 3.5L V6, and no diesel option. Gem of an engine, although more of a car engine than truck type.
Would somehow believe diesel options will remain with Toyota due to their dominance in the backwater markets (markets typical Africa)
Kind regards,
Andries

Seems like the LC 300 will get the 3.5V6 Turbo out of the Lexus LS500 (as mentioned earlier.).
There is also every likelyhood a new V6 3.3 Turbo Diesel will be launched.
Then there is talk of GR models.
It sounds like:
1. The next Hilux & Tacoma will be the same vehicle.
The GR Hilux may get the V6 3.3 TD in markets like ours (& the V6 3.5 in markets like the US).
BUT!!!
It seems there may be GR versions of the LC300.
How will they give it more power?
Well, it seems by making it a GR Hybrid.
Just like the RAV4 PRIME is the best performing RAV.
In fact, the RAV4 PRIME has the fastest 0-100 of all vehicles made by Toyota.
Finally, the LC300 won't be sold in the US - they will only get the Lexus LX600 which will be based on the LC300.
