I think I know a little about off-road driving. Point me at an obstacle that requires power and torque. So far the only obstacles that I have not been able to conquer in a Jimny required silly sizes of tyres, and double lockers. And in 26 years of driving Suzuki's off-road, I have driven home every time without damage, except the occasional bodywork scrape.ThysleRoux wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2019 12:18 pmAs capable as the Jimny is, I think you misunderstand the value of power and torque in off road situations. Without these you require momentum in many off-road scenarios - momentum without sufficient engine torque means speed and speed tends to break things.

Saxj, I owned a Jimny for 3 years. It was very capable in its own right, but nowhere near as capable as a stock wrangler.

And you have similar results on that hill with any vehicle that doesn't have traction aids. Nothing to do with power, torque or tyre size.

All I can say is Vic's Jimny did not require massive power, torque or momentum to conquer Baboons. The traction control worked overtime I think. The SJ410 that I was a passenger in had a 1400 Nissan engine in but with a crawler gearbox and lockers and it just drove over everything with ease

i have owned a 1.3 Jimny......... damn i miss that little toy. in the right hands and mods it is really a gem and a giant slayer. but it has its limitations especially big rocks as the front axle stays close to the ground. After we did a new route on piesangkloof and having hit every rock in the road to the obsticals i decided to get the Wrangler. problem is with a lot of mods it becomes work to drive it on a open road and 120 is an achievement and that is then reflected in very bad fuel economy. In town i got 7km/l and open road lucky to get 10km/l
with the wrangler on 3'' lift and 35''s i wont brag about consumption in town 6km/l and 8.3km/l @120km/h but with MUCH MORE power.
YES both has SFA & SRA with coils and shocks. but that is about where the similarities stop. one major setback on the Jimny was that with a lack of torque and smart electronics it stalls very easily on the technical stuff as it does not have a "crawler gear" like the JK.
STD both are in need of mods especially that baberlip on the JK.
In short i should have kept the Jimny as a daily town car and the Jeep for the ruff stuff. but 2 2dr vehicles doesn't work with a baby

No, it shows that the Japanese have no idea about tyre pressures, and tyre size counts more than any other aspect off-roadRicoffy wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2019 8:12 amThe first 2 min of the video shows otherwise.Saxj wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2019 10:24 pmWrangler vs Jimny

And what do you need to rotate bigger tyres forward? More power and torque.Saxj wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2019 1:22 pmNo, it shows that the Japanese have no idea about tyre pressures, and tyre size counts more than any other aspect off-roadRicoffy wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2019 8:12 amThe first 2 min of the video shows otherwise.Saxj wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2019 10:24 pmWrangler vs Jimny
