OK, here is my report:
Getting There:
I drove up on Friday, leaving an hour later than planned as Anton wanted to drive in convoy (it's an Afrikaner thing dating back to the Groot Trek).
While waiting for Anton at the Sasol opposite Silverstar Casino I saw Ant come growling past in his Patrol.
The trip there was nice, out past Hekpoort, Magaliesburg & to Rustenburg.
Anton knows the area well & he kept me entertained with stories of the various places (over the ORRA Radio).
The last 12km is a dirt road (if you use the route we used - I went home a different way).
Arrival:
We arrived, it was overcast & picked out camp sites. MartinDJ was already there so I camped close to him as I wanted to check out his new Invader Duo.
Ant also arrived.
Anton set up & gradually others (Japie, PieterDeV etc) pulled in.
Loerkop:
Loerkop is very nice. Bryan is an outstanding host & the facilities, though basic, are clean & well thought out.
The Ablutions are nice.
There's a kitchenette.
There's a large Boma.
There's a massive covered area next to the Boma with a kitchen - this proved to be vital as the weather was k@k.
My ONLY complaint is the camp sites are small, so you can't easily drive in, unhitch & drive out.
Also the site I chose was at a bit too much of a slope.
Bryan promised to address these issues & I have NO doubt he will.
The evening:
We had a braai in the Boma, it started to rain & we all headed off to shower & have an early-ish night.

Saturday:
We got up, I had a shower, it had rained through the night.
Bryan opened the kitchen & put out an urn & (instant) coffee & lots & lots & lots of AWESOME Rusks.
I don't drink instant coffee as I have class, but I gave my rusks to Anton & had Bryan's instead.
Ant decided, ivo the crap weather, to start with the Obstacle Course & do the Mountain Trail later.
Obstacle Course
The obstacle course was very muddy & very slippy.
I decided to skip the 2nd obstacle -a very steep downhill, a sharp left & then a steep climb.
I feared not making the turn & sliding into a tree.
But eventually I got Anton to drive with me & did it.
But damn! I was nervous.
Japie suggested we skip certain tough obstacles, but Ant has no fear.
We eventually gave up - but it was scary fun - scary as you have to watch out for sliding in to trees - not easy when your steering does fokol...
The Mountain Trail
This is a little nerve-wracking as you drive on a side slope, passenger side down.
I drove behind Anton, every time he his a stone or something, it would chuck his Isuzu's ar$e left.
Although the route wasn't too difficult, it is white-knuckle stuff & you cannot lose concentration.
You need to watch the side-slope while looking out for sharp rocks & tree stumps that cut cut a sidewall.
We finally arrived at 'Riller' the obstacle. It's a scary one where you must constantly over-ride your desire to do the obvious,
A steep downhill, with a S-bend & large trees.
But we all did it.
I must commend Pieter De Villiers - he did it all in a Defender 130 & this track is NOT long vehicle friendly.
We then went to the summit & the 'Groot Boom' camp site before heading back.

Post Drive Debrief:
Back at the Lapa, we did a de-brief & gave Bryan our input.
We were out for 6 hours & did 11km.
Most of the day we had our wipers on intermittent.
I must say, the Off Course Cameraman, Danie, is like an Energizer Bunny on Acid - the guy just doesn't stop.
He is filming, guiding, packing rocks, running. He made me tired...
Saturday Evening:
Another Boma braai, the rain came & we settled in under the large lapa - very pleasant.
Sunday:
Anton was up & out of there early.
The rest sowly packed up & left.
I turned RIGHT out the gate - only 5km of sand road & then headed back through Rustenburg.
Summary:
Loerkop is very nice.
Bryan & his wife Rietta are outstanding hosts.
The facilities are fantastic.
The Obstacle Course & Mountain Trail are lovely & must be a bit easier in dry weather.
It was great having the Off Course team there to show us around.
The Donkey's ensure that we have plenty hot water.
I can highly recommend a visit. Go. You'll thank me.
It's also only around a 2 hour drive from JHB or PTA with zero tolls.

It was an interesting drive at the bottom area because of the rain indeed. I was also amazed that Pieter got that 130 through unscathed!
Although it's not an extreme trail compared to some others out there, as Manny said, you need to concentrate the whole time weaving your way up the mountain.
Definitely one of my favourite places!
