I couldn’t make the weekend with the AG guys but Ant had organised the following weekend for a Patrol group to go to Loerkop so I joined them.

I agree with all Manny said about the hospitality of the owners and the facilities.

We did the route in the same order as the AG group.ie obstacle course then mountain drive then the route up to Off-Course Summit. As most will know I am not really too fond of trail driving but this trail is a bit different to most. The natural obstacle route is mostly sandy and the mountain trail is mostly sand and compost from the tree canopy. The only thing you have to be aware of the whole time are the trees and the danger of sliding into them on the many off-camber sections. The only rocky section is the route up to Off-Course summit.

I would recommend this track as it is varied and interesting. The natural obstacle area is mostly dongas and cross axles. Then the mountain route is a lovely drive under the tree canopy.

I would highly recommend doing the trail over two days. If you go for a weekend do the mountain trail on Saturday then do the natural obstacle course on Sunday morning. We did it all on Saturday. Five vehicles left camp at 9am and returned at 16h30 so a long day. More vehicles or any difficult recoveries would make it even longer.

All in all a good technical drive.

Loerkop Terugvoer

Geriewe was heerlik , skoon en netjies . Donkie is 'n wonderlike ding vir warm water .
Lekker braai by die Boma vrydag en saterdag aand , vuur was verskaf deur Bryan .

Saterdag
