Eastern FS DVR Adventure

So, for some, a once in a lifetime event has arrived and is open for booking. Do not miss out on this one. It is going to be one for the books and we will be visiting one of the most beautiful mountain parts in the country, which is not accessible to the public without our Tour guides concession and his knowledge of the terrain

WHEN?
Thursday 23 September-Sunday 26th September 2021
Arrive Thursday Kerkenberg and return home either Sunday or Monday.

(Note: Friday 24th is a Public Holiday ~ M)

If need be you can stay over Sunday 26th at base camp and drive back home Monday 27th September.

WHERE?
Kerkenberg Basecamp - between Van Reenen's and Golden gate
Spitskop Drakensberg

FACILITIES?
Kerkenberg Basecamp 1 Ablution available
Base camp 2 - Wild camping - no Ablutions

WHO?
All paid up members of the 4x4 Action Group.
As well as non - members who will abide by the Clubs Ethos, Rules & Code of Conduct.
You must havean ORRA licensed RADIO for communication in the mountains - without communication you can not join it is suicide.

THE BIG QUESTION - HOW MUCH?
Rates are R2000 per vehicle cost includes camping, trip fee & trail cost for the farmers who's land we are accessing.
This cost covers the vehicle, driver & passenger,
First night supper included - supplied by DVR
For additional people per vehicle an additional R100 / person for Thursday night supper is required.
Max 4 people per vehicle.

So if Manny and Tammy only join it is R2000
But if Manny,Tammy and 2 kids join it will be R2200 for the trip

We are camping for 3 nights
Last 2 nights is wild camping without any facilities you need to be fully self sufficient.

THE CAMPSITE
Kerkenberg Basecamp 1
Thursday night also fairly wild camp, ablution facility but no power available for campers and supper supplied by DVR you bring your own eating utensils

Base camp 2 in the mountain - fully wild camp no Ablution facilities.
From Friday morning to Sunday afternoon you wil be doing a Plaas squat and Spade if nature calls.
Basecamp 2 is est 40km mountain routes away from Base camp 1

Make sure you fill up fuel at Harrismith before arriving at Kerkenberg this trip eats fuel as you are 90% of the time in low range and might not see 3rd gear
So if you need to bring a Jerry can it can be left safe at base camp 1

ACTIVITIES
Mountain trail driving with some spectacular cliffs
Some nice steam crossings
Swimming in a mountain pools
Lots of technical obstacle playing areas.

ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
This is an environmentally sensitive area and as the 4x4 Action Group in keeping it this way pls stay in the tracks and don't drive off them.

.................

MESSAGE FROM DIRK DVR

PLEASE TAKE NOT OF THE FOLLOWING.
THIS ISNOT COMPULSORY.

It is tradition that every person buys a smal present. I dont want to put a amount on this , but +_ R100.
And just be careful what you buy. !! You might get your own present !ImageImageImage
These prices are randomly handed out around the campfire , for anything , and the group nominates you. Most stuck , snail holding up the group , biggest mouth , most nagging woman , ect ect ImageImageImage just joking but you get the idea. Children can also walk away with a price. And keep it 4x4 or camping related. I remember a guy getting a torch the first night. Came in very handy as he forgot his own. There are very nice prices for cheap. It is all about the fun and camaraderie ?

NUMBER 2.
If you got any old clothes , jackets , shoes , tinned food ect ect. Please bring it with , We will be handing them out on the route to the Shepard’s in the mountains. I am on a fery good foot with them , and at the end of the day ! They are our securities.

................

Important notice !!

First night arriving Basecamp 1. Thursday.
Friday morning not one minut later than 8H00 we leave for mountain. Line up , riders breaving will be 7h45. And final radio test.....DO NOT DEFLATE YET WE WILL DEFLATE AS WE ENTER THE MOUNTAIN
