So if I may make one or two observations about what we can learn from this excursion.

I was not on this trail as I am away for the weekend having a much deserved break from my daily grind.
I can only go by what has been reported back to me.

ACCURATE INFORMATION ABOUT THE TRIP

It is important to relay accurate information about any trip that is arranged. This will allow people to make the correct decisions when it comes to participation. It will ensure everyone knows what they are in for and what to expect. If unsure it is also expected that participants do their own research.

THE “LUXURY” OF RADIO COMMS

It has become so obvious over the last few years that radio comms between vehicles makes any trip more enjoyable, more informative and much safer. I would strongly encourage anyone without an ORRA capable radio to think about investing in one as part of your kit. If you do not have one please arrange one from a friend before a trip or ask at the beginning of the trip if someone has a spare. Very often our members will oblige.

VEHICLE MAINTENANCE

It is important to arrive with a well maintained vehicle. Note I say maintained, not reliable. Any vehicle can have problems with reliability but a poorly maintained vehicle has a greater chance of experiencing problems in harsh terrain. I would encourage members to ensure that their vehicles are correctly maintained. This is to ensure that the group has an enjoyable time and can get to their destination with the minimum of unnecessary delay. Yes we do expect problems along the way but what can be prevented must be for the enjoyment of all.

Just my thoughts.

Quite coincidentally MadMatt in Australia had the same problem as I had with his radiator. He shows how he did the fix on the trail. It's pretty much what I did.

So in summary:
A Pajero with problems activating Low Range & Diff Lock.
A Disco 1 that broke down 3 times in less than 10km & had to be towed home.
A Patrol with a Radiator leak.
Assorted bumps & scratches to various vehicles, especially the Everest.

All in less than 4km of wheelin' :D

Does one vehicle breaking down 3 times in one day count as "a breakdown"?

Just stating that the Land Rover didn't make it in "Land Rover Country", although a bit battered and bruised, the stock Everest did make it.
