Chairman's Report on the 2019 YEF
Months of work culminated in a highly successful YEF - one of the more enjoyable YEF events in the past few years.
Friday was hectic as a Taxi association had blockaded Brits, those who took Emile's route were OK, but due to traffic issues elsewhere I, like many others, headed into Brits.
Anyway, we all got through, the 3 Stop/Go's weren't too serious & we made it.
MOST attendees were there by nightfall - Peter (Rabbiddog) arriving later - as is tradition.
LX also arrived late, like very, so on Saturday. only guys like Kurt (Vice Chair) & Emile (Chief arranger) & a few others drifted in.
On Saturday attendees; chilled, swam, went cycling, went for game walks, relaxed, tanned, drank & chatted & mingled.
A group of us went to Beestekraal for a Brunch. Everyone did whatever they wished. Very relaxing...
Bush & Buck is a nicely laid out Caravan Park, with plenty of nice ablutions.
The only quirk was that the hot water boilers (donkey's) are situated in a central ablution block, so it takes the water ages to get to the shower - you have to run out a good 60 liters of water before the hot water comes through.
So I had a few cold showers.
There are plenty trees, unfortunately, they are a few wet years away from giving good shade - but I think we all managed to only get sun if we intended to.
The Formalities:
We all gathered around 16:30, for the first time ever I didn't have to go through a cat-herding exercise to get everyone in place.
Well done guys!
Only BillyH never pitched & LX wandered down slowly, missing the group photo & the start of the proceedings...
After the Group pic we started with the Awards & Strafdoppe.
We gave out 7 awards. Grips, for example got an award for his great loyalty on the infamous Road To Hell, 4Gee (who has lost a whopping 35kgs!) got the main award for qualifying as an Ultimate Trail Master.
TGWInduna also received an award as did Paul#25.
We then issued Strafdoppe, so many Strafdoppe! - the guys not wearing Club Shirts got for not wearing Club Shirts. There were many others... many.
After the drinks were consumed, we had a mass braai with Braai packs sponsored by the Great & Glorious Club.
Thanks:
The first & biggest THANK YOU must go to Emile (Diesel Duiwel) - he largely arranged the entire event single handedly.
Yes, his table (post #2) was never up to date, yes, I had to prod & goad him, but he did it.
Not only did he do it - he did it well...
Then thanks to Bush n Buck - the venue was nice & they accommodated all our requests.
Thanks to TGWInduna for the Coral beers, I think I drank 6 of his stock.
Thank you to Geoff (Wave) & Michael (Axe Ego) of NF Additives for sponsoring a case of Air Con cleaner that we handed out as gifts.
A dozen members will have sterilized fragrant air cons soon.
Thanks to Martin & Liebherr for the gifts (Belts, branded tape measures, LED Pen Lights etc).
Thank you to Flipside for sponsoring all the wood - that little Jimny looked like it had a big RTT when it arrived groaning under the load.
Thank you to Beestekraal Station Restaurant (brilliant idea to use them Manny) for the catering, there were side dishes left over, in fact an entire Potato salad was left unopened & there was pap & sous aplenty.
I love a good pap n Sous (not being brought up in a Boarding School or Afrikaans home I wasn't force fed pap as a kid - so I love it!!!).
Then a massive THANK YOU! to each & every person (Members & Guests) who attended - everyone was chilled, friendly & helpful, guys like Johannes & Erin (Imvubu) helped set up the braais, guys like Bugger helped me put up the Club flags - Francoise (Panda) & Bugger lit the fires etc.. etc...
Thanks guys - you made it a success.
Finally Thank You to the Club's Nedbank Club Account - in addition to monies paid by members - we spent a further R14000 on the event.
Conclusion:
24 members attended (Shane couldn't make it unfortunately), there were 56 adults & about 17 kids at the event.
The way it all went off tells me the club is in a very good place & is strong & healthy...
