ABOUT BLOUBERG:
This nature reserve is home to a large colony of Cape vultures made up of about 1000 breeding pairs. There is a vulture restaurant where the vultures come to feed on carcasses and to bathe. The views of the vultures roosting spots from the bottom of the mountain is also a really worthwhile sight.
Blouberg is also a buffalo and sable antelope breeding center. Many other buck species are present as well as giraffe, warthog and bush pig.
Birding in the area is prolific.
The topography of the area ranges from high mountainous areas to Bushveld and grasslands.
THINGS TO DO:
Game drives in the reserve. There are quite a few 4x4 only routes but nothing too hectic.
Visit the vulture restaurant where the vultures come to feed. Local farmers donate carcasses to the reserve to put out for the vultures.
At Buffalo dam their is an interesting hide which is sunk into the ground so that you view the animals at ground level.
There is a very scenic walk through the fig tree forest which features some large sycamore trees as well. A nice place for a lunch.
An interesting drive to the bottom of the mountain under the vulture roosting cliffs. A good place for a picnic lunch.
