2019 First Quarter Extreme Trail - Moegatle's NEW River Route

#1

Post by Flipside »

Our first 2019 Quarterly Extreme Trail, is at the famous Moegatle... we run Alex’s new River Trail

What?: 2019 Quarter 1 Extreme 4x4 Weekend

When?: 22 to 24 March 2019

Time?: If you are not camping Friday night, you must be at the venue before 09:00 on the Saturday.

Where?: Moegatle – One of SA’s Terror Trails

Cost?: For the WEEKEND’s Trails - R300 per vehicle – excellent value for money

Accommodation and costs – Details below
Camping: R110 per adult or high school kids per night.
Toddlers stay free and primary school kids – half price (That is R55 for the math challenged)

The following chalets and rooms are for rent (minimum 2 nights booking) – They have bedding
provided.
Chalet 1- Double Bed and a single bed – R600 per night
Chalet 2 – Double bed and Single bed, plus 2 single beds in Loft (only school age kids allowed to sleep in

Safari tent 5 and 6 – 3 single beds each, and they have power. R520 per night

Organiser & Guide?: Flip Kotze

Details:
You arrive on the Friday late afternoon or evening, to set up camp & have a light meal and chat session.
Or you arrive early on Saturday morning. To be deflated and ready to go by 09:00.

If there is enough interest, we have a night drive on Friday night at 21:00.
Believe me, the trail is a totally surreal experience at night.
If the weather permits, we will have a full moon to show us the way.
Saturday you get up early, get ready & line up your 4x4's, Deflated and ready to go by 09:00.
Make sure you have the sticker from Moegatle on your window. No Alcohol to be consumed on the trail,
we do not want unnecessary slip-ups.
The River trail group will leave 09:00 sharp.

We do the trail and return to camp late afternoon.

Prepare the fires and have a great get together around the fire while we braai and eat.
Anyone who is keen, can join us on Sunday morning for a trip to the legendary Koos se Klim.
We leave at 08:30 for Koos se Klim, since everyone is already there, Right???

Group Size?: On the River trail, we have to limit it to 8 or a maximum of 10 vehicles. The trail is rather tight, and a lot of guiding will
be required. To ensure we do complete the trail in a reasonable day, we must limit the number of
vehicles.

Vehicle requirements? You need a slightly modded & lifted vehicle & you preferably need a navigator. It
will be a big plus if you know your vehicle well.

Rocksliders, underbody protection & proper tyres are essential.
A standard 4x4 will make it with very careful guidance (Running boards will not survive)

What to Pack?: Camping stuff, 2l of water per person for Saturday & Sunday respectively
Food, snacks and liquids for the day, Recovery gear, a few drinks for Friday and Saturday night, warm clothing -
Saturday and Sunday breakfast. Compressor etc...

Payments?: You pay into the Club Account.
You MUST use the reference Moegatle after your Forum Name:
EG: Mad Manny Moegatle or Flipside Moegatle

Eg. If I do the trails and I Camp for 2 nights:
R300 + R110 + R110 = R520

Pay By?: You must pay by 25 February 2019

I wonder if my stock 76 will make the trail?

I've chatted to Johan Swift about this trail, and he claims that it has some hairy parts for "plaas bakkies"... As he likes to call anything that is not a Jeep.. :)

Even Alex raised an eyebrow when I asked him... He He

But, we could just try ne' So I am in for this. Unless I get tripped up at work.
I will be paying closer to the event.

And I shall bring my special spotter with :)

I'm interested. But the new Jimny needs some armour. The radial arm cups have taken a hammering, and that's on plain old easy trails. The sills have seen a few scrapes too.

Vic, you just have to park it for ONE day so that people can get to do the measurements.

Otherwise they will never get done.

You have to be considerate.
The whole country wants to buy one, even Manny cannot talk about anything else, and you are too busy gallavanting around to allow people to measure.
Sies man

The old one needed them, and the new one is not a lot different.
