Thing is Geoff, I'd like to get more experience with guys that know what they are doing like Flip and the likes, but not at the expense of my vehicle.
My primary aim with the Disco is toward over-landing and not radical trails. It's okay, I have lots of discussions I can have with the Captain instead of getting stressed about damaging the Disco.

Why don't you say your piece HenriSteyn?

I too support that idea Paul - some of the experienced 4x4’s support and transfer their knowledge and experience to the less experienced such as myself. Happy to contribute a case of beer or some other means of thanks.

Sometimes a good way to learn is to ride along with someone. Gives one a new perspective. However if you ride along with the Glorious One you are likely to learn more about flying than 4x4 trail driving.

So not to derail this thread with the merits of different trails I have started a thread where you can all have your say on the matter..........

Paul, for those not doing the trail we can do a nice scenic drive over Breedtsnek Pass. Nothing hectic but a nice little drive on our way to Brauhaus.

Sounds good to me Andreas. We can do a radio test for the guys that want while out there.

It doesn't help if a string of numbers get rattled off when I haven't an idea of what that rating means in real life.
It would be much more helpful to explain what type of terrain and the ground clearance amongst other things is required.
I'm not prepared to learn that a 4 means I should have had lots of under-body protection to prevent the broken transfer case I'm sitting with half way through a trail. If this means I miss out on learning more about the capabilities of my vehicle, that's unfortunate, but at least I'll be towing my caravan home with a serviceable vehicle.
Paul, NO ONE can ever describe a trail like that to anyone to a level of satisfaction.
Trails are rated out of 5, it's not an exact science, but it gives people an idea.

Let me 'rattle off' numbers you can understand:
1, After the AGM, make the effort & walk down to the trail to look for yourself.
2. If unsure, ask if you can ride along with someone.
3. Once you are sure, either stay in the vehicle, or walk back & fetch yours.
4. Don't get your nickers in a twist.

Guys, the trail is R200 per vehicle.
I have paid for all of you to do it.
You have 3 choices:
1. Do it Saturday for Free
2. Pay to do it later.
3. Do it as a passenger
4. Never do it.

Those are the only options...

My final comment on the Trail:
Fearless has done it. Twice. When wet & slippery.
So how difficult can it be if a standard mommy wagon driven by a rookie can do it?

My Seeing is Only way to learn is to do the trail
At Obstacles you not Comfortable to do then by Pass
No one look down on you if you do a Bypass
We all were there
And Sometimes you know You will Run out of Talent or your Vehicle do not have the talent
And you can still drive home safe
