I’ve see you guys up North are organizing another Weigh Bridge day.
I think we (Myself) must try and organize one here in Cape Town.
How do we (Myself) go about doing this?
Any guidance would be appreciated

Great idea Mike.
You need to find a weigh bridge, that to me is the key to getting this off the ground .
But seriously if you can find a public one or can get someone who works in construction they may get you access to one.
Then you need to rally the troops to get them to attend.
Manny can assist with the artwork for certificates which you can print down there and then get someone with neat handwriting to write each owner’s name on the certificate with the weight of the rig.
Perhaps you can also try and get a sponsor to give a small goodie bag or pay for the printed certificates with their logo on it etc.

I am sure getting a place is easy
Cost would need to be low otherwise people won’t attend. I for one am certainly interested to know what my setup weighs

FANTASTIC IDEA Mike!!!
The First Weighbridge Day I arranged was on the behest of Raymond of TuffStuff.
TuffStuff picked up the tab. It was on 1 August 2015.
I think we were nearly 30 vehicles - many with Trailers.
We met at a Dros on the East Rand. A Light Breakfast was supplied.
We then left in batches of 6 or 7, you drove about 9km to this Weighbridge.
It was a very, err.... industrial, venue - but we were there for weights - not the view.
You weighed your vehicle.
Then your trailer (if applicable).
Then went back to the Dros.
I came out at 2320kg for Fearless & 1180kg for Gearless (Conqueror Conquest).
That's with no one in the vehicle & empty water tanks.
Tina (Spook) loaded her rig as if she were going to the Richtersveld (for example).
She came in at 4400kg for the F250 & 2200kg for her Conqueror Commander.
A Weighbridge day highlights many things:
* Are your tyres rated for that load?
* Can TuffStuff (or whoever) recover that weight if something happens?
* Can a mate in a RAV or Jimny tow your trailer back?
* Are you within the vehicles GVM?
* Are your brakes & shocks etc. able to cope in harsh terrain with that weight?.
It was extremely informative...

Four years later - we are doing one again.
This one will be at Liebherr in Springs.
Martin has pulled off a fantastic coup - so costs are negligible.
We will be encouraging Overlanders (with trailers) to attend.
Kurt is going to explain briefly, about your touring weight vis s vis your tyre rating, recoveries etc.

The Committee of the 4x4 Action Group will support you fully (as Kurt said above).
If the cost is per vehicle, then you can keep it small.
If there is a base cost - then you need to open it to a larger group.
Oppies 3800 will be of help there.
I would say its best to have your rig loaded as if for overlanding (food, full fridges, full gas bottles, water, beers etyc.) to simulate real world weights as much as possible...
Give me a call & I'll help where I can...

could be fun.
I am sure someone must have access to a weigh bridge . the one at Paardevlei is long decommissioned. Probably a scrap yard or something like that?
but if we use a scrapyard... the Fords will have to get a permit to leave afterwards as they'll be mistaken for stock...
