Ok perhaps lucky for some but not so much for me.
Was hit with that aha moment that the timing of this could be slightly problematic.
Realized it’s the Wife’s Birthday on the 29th April and not just any Bday but the Big 5oh Bday. Any other one I would be prepared to have taken the chance but this would be a bit of a train-smash in slow motion.
Very unfortunately will have to relinquish my spot
And no she does not camp...

I still have to give a write-up of my trip
to Richtersveld but , offhand ,
the best campsites , in no order, are:
Kockerboomkloof
Tierhoek
De Hoop
Gamgat (esp route there)
Groot Melkboom...
and I know Andreas wrote glowingly of
Riemvasmaak...
The campsite at Klein Pella itself was a bit
too civilised, and like sthn cape, for us ...
... so we moved 20kms on and wildcamped
in a scraggy kloof in middle of nowhere.
... but I would arrange with Bex
( see thread on the ‘other’forum ...)
who lives and works at Klein Pella and is building a trail there - looks like a v. good contact.
I would avoid Sendelingdrif ... though restock with
supplies there

Roughly how many KMs are we doing inside the park’
I need to start planning.
- will 137liters of diesel be enough from my last fill in Pella?
- should I take a few spare liters of fuel with?

I averaged about 13L/100 ? between Poffadder
and Sendelingsdrif (TD5) .... but Action group will gen use more doing Road to Hell etc etc
My tanks 75L diesel and I carried say 50L on roof
in 3 Jerries so assume 125L total and I was getting v. low at one stage.
At Viooldrif you can get a quick 1hr pass to Namibia to fill up as no fuel on SA side! but you do go through (quick) border formalities on both sides ...
If I did that route again would take extra 16L fuel to be safe on longest stretch.
our route was Poffadder-kleinPella-along Orange
(Melkboom, DeHoop, Gamgat, etc) . We went clockwise Round(outside) Richtersveld Conservancy (from Vioolsdrif) to Sendelings ... then into Park area itself.
There is fuel and basic supplies at Sendelingsdrif but campsite itself depressing after solitude etc of other campsites ... rather camp before after Sendelingsdrif ... maybe ‘Potjiesdam?’...

There are two Eco trails ...
Eco 1 is Klein Pella to Vioolsdrif
Eco 2 is from Vioolsdrif clockwise
round Richtersveld Conservancy
to Helhoogte area (maybe via Eksteenfontein?)
(then gen on to Sendlingsdrif)
Impt to remember: there only 5 ways
to cross Orange in those parts:
Bridges at :
near Kakamas, Vioolsdrif, Alex Bay... and
Pont at Sendelingsdrif (only if theres water!)
Also impt one can only enter Richtersveld Park
itself (diff to conservancy!) on westernside
gates at Sendelingsdrif and ,maybe,Helshoogte
Not sure of route from SW Richterveld to Port Nolloth if you dont go there via Alex...
Here are path links to the 3 trip reports
Peter H. put together on the Community
forum on our Richtersveld Kalagadi trip
in sept-oct 2018...
... they givea lot more detail.
