Posted: Sun Sep 02, 2018 7:47 pm
What: 4x4 Action Group: Richtersveld Trip 2019
Where: Namakwa Eco Route & the Richtersveld National Park, the far Northern Cape.
When: Saturday 20 April 2019 – Tuesday 30 April 2019
Plan:
- Saturday 20 April: Arrive at Klein Pella in the late afternoon, relax and soak in the new surroundings. This leaves Good Friday to make your way halfway there, if need be.
- Sunday 21 April: We drive along the Namakwa Eco route and find a campsite along the river, preferably close to The road to Hell. We will camp here for two nights, and those that want to do the Road to Hell can do so while the rest relax at the river.
- Tuesday 23 April: We head out of the Namakwa Eco Route for a drive via Port Nolloth, Alexander Bay and Sendelingsdrift. We will camp in the Richtersveld for the next four nights, starting with two nights close to Sendelingsdrift.
- Thursday 25 April: We head to the next camp, still within the park (De Hoop or Richtersberg) and we setup for another two nights.
- Saturday 27 April: We exit the Richtersveld and make our way towards civilisation. The exact spot will be determined closer to the time but we will ensure a lekker place is found.
- Sunday 28 April: We head to Riemvasmaak, just north of Augrabies for two nights camping. Riemvasmaak is only about a 50km drive (on private roads) from Augrabies, so a day visit is on the cards if you want to.
Food:
Each vehicle must cater for themselves, food for 11 nights must be catered for. We will be driving past some largish towns so you can stock up along the way.
Costs:
Fuel: Each vehicle needs to budget for at least 3800km of fuel (not all highway cruising), if from Gauteng. The distance between Klein Pella (start point) and back out to Riemvasmaak is about 1500km. The fuel price is not going down, so keep that in mind.
Accommodation and Park entry fees is estimated at about R4000 but this is subject to change once we confirm all the costs. This is for park fees and camping only, and excludes accommodation to and from the actual route.
Driving Conditions: the route is not a pukka 4x4 route / car breaker, so a standard 4x4 off the showroom floor will be okay. But you will need to ensure that your car is reliable and roadworthy, purely because of the distances and potential heat. All-Terrain tyres are recommended.
Payments:
You pay the Action Group for the park fees and accommodation.
A R1000 deposit secures your spot, there are only 10 vehicles allowed on the Namakwa Eco Route at a time so space is limited, first come first served (money appearing into the account). Actual accommodation and park fees will be confirmed once all the bookings are secured and the R1000 serves as a deposit, there is no "fee" to join us.
You MUST use your Forum Name or Name followed by RV2019, for example Crips RV2019 or Mad Manny RV2019.
