What a nice weekend - despite Karma's best attempts.
I left Friday close to 15:00, NOT the right time to start a road trip with Trailer at the starts of the long weekend.
Just after Heidelberg the useless SAPS set up a road block - they do this to keep us hating them.
Anyhoo, we arrived at nearly 20:00 & set up in the dark.
The rest of the gang were already there: Crips, Panda & his buddy Burger Patty, MartinDJ, Paul#25 & Crips' dad & their spouses.
KurtG & Rabbiddog & spouses arrived later.
We braai'd late & went to bed.
We decided to chill on the Saturday & rather do the trail Sunday - it was a great idea...
Some guys went to Golden gate, others went to Clarens, some went on a hike, Rabbiddog & Sue-Ann went to buy a new tent to replace the small one they had bought to replace the one they took on River Trip but hadn't had time to clean yet.
The rest just chilled.
Georg from inside Germany out arrived in the afternoon.
Luckily Grips' dad served the awesome lamb potjie rather early, it was good - nearly everyone had seconds!
I say luckily because the wind came up, the temperature plummeted & then skies fell on our heads.
It rained nonstop until early morning, after midnight it came down so hard the Rabbiddog's double gazebo collapsed under the weight of the water & Paul's caravan afdak lost a pole for the same reason.
The next morning we cleared up the carnage & after coffee headed to do the Old Mill Drift Pass Route.
The heavy constant rain the night before made the route interesting.
I got stuck right at the beginning - mud so slippery you could barely walk on it.
TheOld Mill Drift Pass Route is a nice route, more scary than challenging, but you need to keep your wits about you.
Francoise (Panda) - the World's only Dos Sete Diablos Conquistador, did a good, but slow, job of leading us.
The last bit of the route is actually the Rebellie mountain route.
As we crested the hill we came across a group, one of them saw us & decided to head down the mountain in front of us in his blue Disco - I have never seen a vehicle move so painfully slow in my life!!!
But in his defense, he was doing the section where a Disco rolled killing the occupants a few years back.
We braai'ed that night before, once again, the wind came, temperatures dropped & then the rain came & then went...
Sunday we all packed early, most went to Uys Huis for breakfast & then we all made our way home...

Conclusion:
The weather didn't play along, as a result the 'kuiering' was subdued.
The ablutions at DiBus Stop are terrible - almost as if they made them crap on purpose.
I certainly would NOT go back.
BUT! the camp site was level & well-tree'd. The area is beautiful, the company was great - a really lekker relaxed crowd.
The Old Mill Drift Pass Route is really lekker (only the little beggars running next to us for a short while distracted from the lovely drive).
Radio comms, for those following club policy, were perfect. Paul didn't do the route, but he called us while we were about 10km (as the mossie flies) from Clarens to warn us the little town was rather busy - so 10km comms in very mountainous terrain.
Thankls to Crips for arranging, his Dad for the Potjie, Francois for guiding us & every one who attended for being there,

Manny asked that I should give him the fuel consumption of the Disco - Xplorer combination after our travels this past weekend.
I think towing at 120 Km/h wherever possible and keeping the cruise control set at 120 Km/h had a slight negative effect on the fuel economy of the Disco.
These figures may be off a bit as I only added some fuel in Clarens and didn't fill up completely again. The Disco's fuel reserve light came on as I was parking the caravan yesterday afternoon so it's about where it was before I fuelled for the trip. This includes the bit of driving without the van in tow over the weekend.
5.5125 Km/l or 18.14058 l/100 Km.
I'll give it a try at 100 Km/h next trip to see by how much, if any, I can influence the rate of oil burned per Km.
Edited the figures as Kurtie was getting his panties in a knot that they weren't accurate enough.

Pajero 3.2 towing Metalian Maxi - 13.8L/100km driving there and 12.5L/100km driving back (according to the onboard computer).
I drove around 120km/h most of the way there and 110km/h on the way back. Also, driving there the traffic was heavier so there was more slowing down and accelerating etc., hence the kak consumption.
