Does it have to be a shooter? I was thinking a bottle of Brannas.

Manny's Report on the 2022 Year-End Function - Part I:

The weather report for Modimole for the YEF weekend had showed Fri 50+ chance of rain. Saturday 78% & Sunday over 80%.
This predicted rainfall % did not change in the week leading up to the event.
So a high chance of rain (& trust me, it rained!)

We had our worst YEF turnout in years, we usually break 30+ members attending, we could accomodate 25 at Lekwena but had only managed 19 members attending (despite my best efforts).

Dirk Shubert usually camps in a Combi Camper, but it was in for repairs - so he was ground camping, his wife had recently had a knee op & couldn't sleep on the ground.

Bugger had bought an XT140 a few weeks ago & this was his first camping trip with it.

IanDVL had bought a Trailer - this was his first trip with it.

Andreas had his driveway & new parking/carport area paved last week, so his vehicles had to stand outside, making trip packing & planning a challenge.

SueAnne found out a few days before the trip that the battery in her hastily constructed battery box was dead & the battery box was faulty.
Lekwena sites are not powered - so a battery system was critical.
We rushed to get a new battery & rewire the battery box.

Then, on Friday, lightening (Act of God) struck the Transformer near Lekwena plunging the area into darkness - the geysers are electric.

So the stage was set for the worst YEF in our 9 year history.

This was going to be a disaster...

Manny's Report on the 2022 Year-End Function - Part II:

I left home & Waze insisted I take the Pelindaba road to Thabazimbi via Brits.
I assumed the traffic snarl up near Rigel was worse than reported.
I later found out that Waze had activated 'Avoid Freeways' for some reason.
Anyhoo, I took the scenic route.
The last bit of this route took me on 40km of poor sand road to Lekwena (as opposed to 17km if I'd gone via ModiMole).
It was raining so this bad sand road was mostly a river running 4"'s deep.

But I did drive past Phala Phala (where our surprised President hides dollars under couches).

I arrived & found about half of the others had already arrived & set up.

It had stopped raining & I set up.

Friday was uneventful, with members arriving all afternoon.

My site (1 & 2) had a braai - it rained & we dashed for cover, but it stopped & we came out again.

White Alex arrived with lots of revving & racing at around 20:00.

By 21:30 I was showered (in the last of the hot water) & in bed.
We listened to Chas & Georg shouting at one another like two deaf drunks.

Black LX arrived at 22:00 & spent the next hour and a half setting up.

I slept well, with a light rain hitting the tent.

Manny's Report on the 2022 Year-End Function - Part III:

Saturday was very overcast, but there was enough sun to justify setting up the Solar panels.

Everyone did their own thing until the mid afternoon when Wessel needed to go to the Lapa to start the Potjies.
I took all the paraphernalia for the formalities down & those making Pot Brood or Salads also started getting busy.

The Transformer had been repaired!!!!

At just after 17:00 as arranged & announced, we gathered for the group photo.
White Alex, Black LX & Pietervil missed it because they are tardy and slapgat!

Deon of Lekwena had very generously donated 4 horse rides (worth R1000), we discussed it and decided to give the rides to Petervil & White Alex's 3 kids (2 his & a friend).
So it was particularly annoying when those chosen couldn't be bothered to be on time.
It also stuffed up my speech as the Horse Rides was the 2nd item after the Welcome!

Anyhoo, after the photo, welcoming everyone & thanking them for their loyal attendance I thanked Deon of Lekwena for being such an outstanding host.

I then explained the 'New World Order' & membership clean out.

We wished Chas a happy 108th birthday & (later) wished Ian a Happy Birthday!

I handed out the Cinquenta Desafios 50 Trails certificates to:
1. Flipside
2. Chas
3. Andreas
4. Mike Nel (c/o Wessel)
5. Ant
6. Bugger

Others like Panda, Saxj, MartinDJ. Outlaw Shaun, Grips etc were not present & their certificates will be awarded at a later event.

I then gave out the UTM Cento Um Desafios 100 Trails certificate to:
1. Andreas.

UBM Ultimate Bush Master Certificates were awarded to:
1. Andreas
2. Bugger.

So Andreas walked off with 3 awards!

IanDVL was given a Certificate of Appreciation (& a 4x4AG Coffee Mug & a Soft Shackle) for his massive IT service to the 4x4 Action Group.
Members will never know how much our Forum, our Website & our Club owes Ian.

Next was the Strafdoppe - we issued over 60 in total nearly finishing 3 bottles of shooters.

Once the formalities were done, we imbibed, ate awesome food & had some fantastic laughs.

By 23:30 I was showered & in bed - it rained heavily & then settled to a light drizzle throughout the night.

Manny's Report on the 2022 Year-End Function - Part IV:
This is the final part.

The THANKS!

Thank you to all those who attended.
Thank you to Wessel for the awesome Potjies - I had two helpings.
Thank you to all those who made Pot breads - I had Ninja's - it was fantastic.
Thank you to those who made salads & side dishes & desserts etc.
Thank you to Ian for his support.
Congratulations to those awarded UTM & UBM awards.
Thank you to Sueanne for helping with the Strafdoppe & cleaning the shooter glasses afterwards - appreciated.
Thank You to Deon of Lekwena - you were great hosts.
The rain & transformer strike did not detract from the weekend.

So despite all the ingredients for the weekend to turn out as a disaster, it was, in my opinion, the best YEF the club has ever had.

It was a GREAT weekend!

To everyone involved - I thank you. what a great crowd...

Thanks Manny.

I had a really relaxing weekend... I think most of us did. Thank you to Manny, Wessel, Sueanne, Lekwena and everyone for the weekend. It was wet, but I didn't really care. I love sleeping with rain in the background.
