I'm going to have to bow out of this trip unfortunately, timing and funds just aren't playing the game.

So I'll redirect the funds to the Blouberg trip as that's more do-able at this stage.

Sorry guys.

Thanks Manny, can I redirect the funds to Blouberg?

RICHTERSVELD TRIP

BASIC INFORMATION

Here follows some information about our trip. This is the trip outline and is subject to change.

Saturday 20th April
We will congregate at Klein Pella and camp overnight. Facilities here are quite civilized.
Sleep @ Klien Pella

Sunday 21st April
We will drive the first part of the 4x4 Eco Route and then camp at Ramansdrift.
Facilities here are very rustic. No power, no water, no ablutions.
Sleep @ Ramansdrift

Monday 22nd April
Today we move along to Kamgab. Those wishing to do The Road To Hell will do so en-route which could mean an early wake up.
No water, no power, no ablutions.
Sleep @ Kamgab

Tuesday 23rd April
We leave the Eco Route and travel via Port Nolloth/Alexander Bay into the Richtersveld at Sendlingsdrift to camp overnight at Potjiespram.
This will be a long but scenic drive.
This campsite has ablutions but only cold water and no power.
Along the route we will have the chance to refuel and get some supplies.
Sleep @ Potjiespram

Wednesday 24th April
Day drives and camp at Potjiespram. No power.
Sleep @ Potjiespram, Night Two.
First time we sleep in the same place twice.

Thursday 25th April
More scenic drives as We move along to De Hoop.
This campsite has No power, only cold water, flushing toilets.
Sleep @ De Hoop

Friday 26th April
Day at leisure. Camp over at De Hoop. No power .
Sleep @ De Hoop. Night Two

Saturday 27th April
We move along to Kokerboomkloof where camping is best described as rustic. Dry toilets, cold water, No power.
Sleep @ Kokerboomkloof

Sunday 28th April
Spend the day enjoying the surroundings and overnight at Kokerboomkloof again. No power.
Sleep @ Kokerboomkloof. Night Two.

Monday 29th April
Our trip home begins with a trip to Riemvasmaak.
On our way we will be able to fuel up and get some supplies in the towns along the route.
This is a beautiful campsite wedged into the bed of a dry river with high cliffs all around.
There are hot springs with small pools where you can get rid of the Richtersveld dust.
Camping facilities here are reasonable with hot water, flushing toilets. No power.
Sleep @ Riemvasmaak.

Tuesday 30th April
We can do a little trip through the area to visit the confluence of the Molopo and Gariep Rivers, Augrabies Falls and Kakamas where the Pink Padstal is renowned for their milkshakes.
The landscape around this area is quite spectacular.
Overnight at Riemvasmaak. No power.
Sleep @ Riemvasmaak. Night Two.

Thursday 1st May

We head home.

While this trip has been organized by 4x4AG please do feel free to take some self initiative to look up information on your own.

Other than information with this email you can find info on the Sanparks website about Richtersveld. Have a look at a map and get familiar with the area and distances to be covered. There is also a lot of info on the 4x4 Eco Route on the net as well as Riemvasmaak.

Some suggestions while I am thinking about them.

Water - This is a water scarce area and while we will spend quite a few nights camping next to the Gariep River you will have to carry plenty of potable water with you. Calculate your requirements.

Fuel - Distances to be covered are not vast. The terrain however is rough and will cause increased consumption. Please arrive at the start of the Eco Route with a full tank of fuel. We will fill up at Port Nolloth between the eco Route and Richtersveld. In the Richtersveld there is no fuel, only at the entrance at Sendlingsdift. It may be wise to top up here. The longer your range the more you can play in the Richtersveld.

Cash - Please be aware that we are traveling in a remote area. Some of the fuel stations may not be able to connect to networks for card transactions at the time that we are there so make sure that you carry enough cash for at least one re-fuel. In the small towns some shops may also not be online when we need them to be. In small towns ATM’s may also not be reliable. Cash is king.

You will also need to pay the Richtersveld Park fees and Klein Pella Camping.

Tyres - The terrain is rough and vehicles will be loaded. Make sure your tyres are the correct spec, pressure at all times. Bring tyre repair kits, compressors, spares with.

Weather - The weather should be quite mild at this time of year but be aware that this region is prone to extremes. Minimum temperatures should be about 7 and max around 30.

Richtersveld Park Entry Fees - You will pay this on arrival at the park. Fees are R71 per adult per day and R36 per child per day. Those with Wild Cards pay nothing as they are accepted.

Klein Pella Camping Fees - Due to our staggered arrival and to allow for flexibility, you will pay these fees on arrival. Fees are R 100 per adult per night. I have booked enough sites for those arriving on the 19th.

Buddy Up - Just a suggestion would be to buddy up with another vehicle so that you can share some items like braai grids, compressors, tools etc. Pointless everyone bringing the whole nine yards if you can share and save some space and weight. Note - sharing beers or wives will be frowned upon!

Sharing of campsites - There are a few sites where we were not able to secure bookings for a campsite for each vehicle. The minimum number of sites we have secured is 7 resulting in one or two vehicles having to share sites.

Wood and braai fuel - I am not sure about the availability of wood on the Eco Route and Richtersveld area. In the Richtersveld there are no shops at any of the campsites that we are staying at. I would assume that we would have to load up with wood before entering the eco route and then try getting more before entering the Richtersveld. A spare bag of charcoal
May not be a bad idea.

Now for the serious stuff.

TOTAL COST

R 2450 per vehicle. (Mike Nel, your cost is R 1660).
This is for camping on the Eco Route from 21st April, plus all camping in the Richtersveld, plus camping at Riemvasmaak.

It does NOT include your fees at Klein Pella or your Richtersveld Park Conservation Fees.
Kurt will have to pay for the kids at the Richtersveld Park entrance.

You have all paid a R1000 deposit so the balance must be paid by 31st March. ie R 1450.(R660 for Mike)

WHAT A BARGAIN!!!

So long for now.

That’s all folks.

Happy planning.

Andreas
