Like said above the road to camp is very mild if it comes to obstacles, BUT ALLOT of it is driving on the side of grassy mountains.
So if you have a top heavy vehicle just ensure you load it in such a way to keep the COG as low as possible.
Slow and steady is the key. Like Dirk always says and will say 500 times more. "Don't be Rambo".
As vehicles have rolled here before some of them on some intense hills others in simple little creek crossings, but all those guys played the Rambo role...

Ok boys
As per the phone call from me to each driver

New plan is to meet Base camp Kerkenberg Thursday 23 September 2021
Sleep 1 night at Base camp 1 and then 2 nights In the mountain.

Dirk will make a large potjie pot food Thursday night for us
The guys that might arrive late Armand might leave you some food over

Be ready 8am Friday morning 25 September
To departure in to the mountain(no excuse to be late)

Do not deflate as there is some tarr driving to the entrance to Chaballalas farm where the fun begin.

We will stop to deflate.

So now you will need 2 nights food and emergency food for the mountain if need be.

It is est 5hrs drive in to the mountain
Same for Sunday when we get out
We should be out if all run good by 2-3pm to Base 1

As Dirk said you are welcome to stay over Sunday night at no extra cost base camp 1 and head back on Monday home.Image

Go with it if you want to
Or remove it

As mentioned it is a trip in the mountains
And a few natural obstacles

Last year Woolf and I had a heavy loaded Tiny and stuff on the roof rack
So some side slopes were done with alot of caution and slow driving

The mountain can change in a heartbeat
And then you don't want to be un prepared

All though this is a overlanding type trip just be prepared for the inevitable

This post has given Chas absolutely nothing to work with, niks, fokkol, nadda Image
Well I'm glad Chas have read between the lines ........

Chas is a old Dog at this and forgot what most still got to learn

He knows his vehicles limits.

So it has been a while since i have been active on the forum.

Guys pack little as needed. Keep your COG as low as possible. Keep your rain coats close by as well as your recovery gear.

YOU CAN NOT DO THIS TRIP WITH OUT A ORRA RADIO. NOT POSSIBLE.
If the mist comes in all GPS signal is lost and you cant see your own bonnet. Trust me it does and has happened more that once. If there is 3mm of rain the lack of traction increases dramatically and the sandstone becomes as slippery as ice.

Yes this will be as Oom dirk calls it " die blommetjie roete" but if the rain comes and you need to get off the mountain...…. you Are going off on the first available possible route. That being said DVR wil not take unnecessary risks but the safety of the whole group is paramount.

There is ample drinking water in the streams of the mountain........damn it is LEKKER.
Take warm clothes even if weather guy says it is going to be 30+ degrees. we had a 32degree day followed by a -3 in September 2019.
KEEP YOUR RECOVERY GEAR AND MEDICAL KIT CLOSE. if something happens you don't have time to search you need to operate.

Enjoy the trip you are going to be treated to the best scenery in the country.

I leave you with the words of Rodney Chandler after the Ultimate 4wd Adventure.
"these mountains are an unforgiving beauty"

And sort your tyres out
If necessary you got a hard to find tyre size
You could leave a extra spare at base camp 1

A member lost 2 tyres at Moegatla the past weekend.
But he will be upgrading to more flex tyres than elastic bands on 20" rims

Total. 230 km
Assuming off road/4*4 etc. Equiv 500km
